Title: "Stephen Garcia’s dad responds to dismissal"
Post by: Chechem on October 12, 2011, 05:27:13 AM

*** Nomination for Parent of the Year ***

“Obviously, Stephen is responsible for his actions, which we’ve told him from the beginning,” the elder Garcia told the Tampa Tribune. “He should’ve known better. He should’ve made better decisions. I don’t know how many college kids can handle zero tolerance, but those were the choices he had.”

Stephen “decided to have a couple of beers. And then they decided to random alcohol test him and that’s what he failed,” Garcia added. “I don’t hold the university responsible for it. Stephen did it. He should be responsible. You only get so many chances.”

 :o  Finally, a real parent.

Great post! Yes, Dad is dying inside, but he understands that his son has to grow up and be responsible.
Dad is showing true love for his son. Very tough situation.

He tried to slip in an excuse. I disagree. This guy still doesn't get it.

I agree with you! Being an educator it is extremely rare to find parents that want their kids held accountable for their actions. It is usually what did the teacher, or in this case University/Coach do. I have deep respect for parents who actually parent rather than try to be a friend.

He also does not grasp the concept of his kid being one of the ones that cannot handle "a couple beers"?.
