Quote
The Vols were in it for a half, trailing 17-7 when the band took the field.

That wasn’t the problem.

Here’s the problem:

Tennessee’s offense had possession of the ball for only 8 of the 30 minutes in the second half, during which it ran a meager 19 plays.

LSU, bigger, stronger, deeper and more talented, held the ball 22 minutes and ran 38 plays.

No wonder then the yardage differential in the second half was 222 to 66 — and the scoreboard differential 21-0.

No wonder a crowd that began at 101,822 was thinned out to purple pockets by the end of the fourth quarter as the Tigers (7-0, 4-0 SEC) crunched out another long touchdown drive.

"They pounded us,’’ said UT coach Derek Dooley. "I don’t know any other way to say it.’’

Coming into Saturday with a minus-29 net yards in two SEC games, the Vols rushed for 111 yards against the best defense they’ve faced and one of the best in the country.

"If we continue on that path, we’ll be fine,’’ said Dooley, aware the path passes next through Bryant-Denny Stadium.

LSU’s path, the Tigers hope, will continue to the national championship game.

"That,’’ said LSU coach Les Miles, "wasn’t our best game, certainly, but we did what we needed to do to secure a victory.’’

They will be ready for Bama. They would rather beat Bama than enybody on their schedule.

They will be ready for Bama like I'm ready to win the lottery.

It wasn't so long ago that Mt Cody had to block a last second field goal for Bama to win, so we can't say it isn't possible.

I remember, but I also remember that team was struggling big time in the weeks leading up to that game.  This team is steam rolling people.  It is probably because the competition we have played so far this month is not quite up to the level we were playing week in and week out in 2009.  We had just come off a tough game with USCe the week before we played UT that year.  They were 5-1 at the time, with their only loss being an early game at UGA.  The week before that we played Ole Miss, but it was a much different incarnation than this year's version.  They had only lost one game (16-10 @ USCe) coming into the Alabama game and finished 9-4 for the year.  We were exhausted by the time we got to that 8th game against UT, and it showed on the field in the weeks leading up to it.

This team looks full of energy and focused.  Anything can happen, but I look for the Alabama dominance to continue this time.

Yes, Jamos the offense was really struggling in October in 2009 (McElroy especially).  Of course you usually don't see it coming until it's already happened, but I just don't see this team hitting a lull.

Also, it took Ingram's first fumble in 300+ career touches and an outside kick recovery all in the last 4 minutes of the game for UT to even have a shot to win.
