Former Alabama offensive lineman Wesley Britt chews a cigar after defeating Tennessee in this 2002 file photo. But is the cigar tradition alive and well today?

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama

What happens in Alabama's locker room stays in Alabama's locker room.

Cigars, for instance. It was a long-standing tradition after a victory over

Well, after a 41-10 victory last season at Tennessee, Alabama players could be seen with cigars after the game.

Alabama coach Nick Saban was asked about the tradition after Wednesday's practice.

"You know, anything that we do like that, I think is something that is internal to the team, and I don't think it should be a public issue," he said.

"And we're certainly not going to make it one, one way or the other."

CPB used to buy them for the team. Then the NCAA said a it was an extra benefit, so coaches could not do it anymore. I know that G-Mac bought them last year. No NCAA rule saying a player can not buy things for his teammates ...yet.

A long time ago, I saw a pic of them (boxes or bricks) packed in a team equipment locker for an away (UT) game. Cool picture.

I still play with Lincoln Logs when the kids will let me.  The plastic roof pieces they have now are way better than those green slats I had that always gave me splinters.

:D

Is that what the Time Magazine article is all about?

This wasn't really newsworthy.  I needed one of those big ones that have 4 notches (3 sections).  The only way to get one is to spend about $25 on a specific set that has exactly 1 in it, with about a hundred of those little bitty ones.  Most sets don't have any of them at all.  I looked on their web site to see if you could buy individual logs, but they don't do that evidently.

You need some big 4 notchers if you are going to build the Ponderosa.  Those little two room shacks that you can build with most sets are for hillbillies.  I never did stain it, otherwise you wouldn't even know it was a home made one.
