BATON ROUGE - National and statewide reports on Friday that the three LSU football players suspended for last Saturday's Auburn game would be cleared for the Nov. 5 Alabama game were premature.

Cornerback/kick returner sensation Tyrann Mathieu, leading rusher Spencer Ware and cornerback Tharold Simon, whom LSU said were suspended for "rules violations," have not yet been cleared and have hurdles to clear if they are going to play in the Nov. 5 "Game of the Century" in Tuscaloosa, Ala., between No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama.

And the ultimate decision will not be with LSU coach Les Miles, LSU chancellor Michael Martin said Monday moring at the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics in Washington, D.C.

"The athletic director will ultimately make the decision, and he'll consult with me," Martin told USA Today. "Fortunately, for them and the team, they have two weeks to get their act togethere because we have a bye week. They have been directed to some counseling, and they will now be subject to greater scrutiny for the remainder of their time at LSU."

They'll play unless the chancellor wants to find another job

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict they'll play.  :eyeroll:

They are almost backing themselves into a corner if they don't quit saying stuff like that.

CLM to LSU Chancellor: "Either you go on TV and say this is your decision, or I'll start making calls to find your replacement on Monday"

According to Rivals:

LSU will reinstate suspended players Tyrann Mathieu, Spencer Ware and Tharold Simons on Tuesday, according to Dennis Dodd of CBSSports.com, despite the school's chancellor mentioning earlier Monday that a reinstatement was not imminent.

The trio missed this past week's game against Auburn after reportedly failing a drug test. The school has yet to confirm the reason they did not play on Saturday.

Why dont they just get rid of the rules if they dont want to follow them. I actually dont care if all their players, or any player anywhere for that matter, smokes pot. Just dont make a rule up discussing the punishment for the offense if you arent going to follow it.  They look f#@king stupid

Why are they even pretending there's a chance they won't play?  If they'd just come out and said one game suspension it would be over already.  They're just allowing the story to drag on and it's going to make them look even worse when they decide to let the guys play.

It makes a difference in the way Bama will practice for them with the scout team.

They'll play unless the chancellor wants to find another job

CLM is not going to jeopardize a shot at the NC because of some recreational left handed cigarettes. He’ll probably kick the Hash Badger in the tail and instruct him how to use somebody else’s pee.

CLM has the best Ponzi Scheme going for people actually thinking he’s a good coach. The only team that consistently catches more breaks than LoSeU is the barn.

I will say this, two things that has enabled the hat to keep his job is great recruiting and he has hired a few really good coaches, especially Chavis. They would be a mediocre team without Chavis. IMHO

Man those cajuns would quit eatin craw fish before those guys don't play against Alabama. CLM is not a disciplinary coach, if they smoke dope or shoot up it don't matter till after the game then he would do something ""Maybe"". RTR!
