Quote
GAME WITHIN THE GAME: Marquis Maze, Alabama's 5-foot-10, 180-pound senior wide receiver, might match up often against Tyrann Mathieu, LSU's 5-9, 175-pound star sophomore cornerback on Nov. 5. Maze has 39 catches (21 more than any teammate) for 482 yards (252 more than any teammate). Mathieu, who is expected back from suspension, has two interceptions, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

STAT OF THE WEEK: In its victory over Tennessee last week, Alabama earned first downs on nine consecutive plays where a first down was possible. The Crimson Tide opened the second half with four passes that each resulted in a first down before QB AJ McCarron ran into the end zone from 2 yards out.

NOTES: Alabama has given up six TDs, 55 points, 6.9 points per game, 359 rushing yards, 1.67 yards per carry, two rushing TDs, 44.88 rushing yards per game, 48.1 percent completion rate, 4.5 yards per passing attempt, four passing TDs, 83.68 passing efficiency rating, 1,444 total yards, 3.2 yards per play, 180.5 yards per game (42.4 yards per game better than second-place Michigan State), 21 rushing first downs, 79 first downs and 9.9 first downs per game -- all national lows. Alabama's 47 passes broken up and 56 passes defended are national highs. ... Alabama has returned a national-high 31 punts. ...

Bama will need other receivers to step up.  Hanks looks like he has Stickum on his hands with those fabulous catches.  (I remember the days when we could use that stuff...)

"Lester Hayes" of "The Oakland Raiders".

Hopefully Kenny Bell, Brandon Gibson, DeAndrew White, and Darius Hanks plus our tightends will have big games catching passes.

Since he is one of their main blitzers, I just want to see Bama burn them where Honey Bonger bitzes from.

Who's responsibility will that turn into (for LSU) if Honey Buns blitzes? Man to man?

It will probably be a safety who has to roll coverage to him.  Also the RB's are bigger than him, when they get a shot they need to make it count.  Problem is they usually overload one side where he come free.  That is why Bama needs to burn them on his blitz.

Since we don't have a big JJ type receiver this year, anything to get MM or DH off the LOS free is a good thing, huh? I just asked about what a "hot read" was this summer-- but is that where that kicks in?

The hot read is usually an adjusted route because you see the guy coming.  Say the rec has a post and his guy is blitzing he now runs a slant or something comparable.   Getting off the LOS will be big because it looks like the LSU defenders are physical.  Motion can help get them off the LOS along with bunch formations.

The hot read is where you know you need to get rid of the ball in a hurry. These days teams will send a DB and cover with a dropping DE/LB.
