Title: World Series Post by: Catch Prothro on October 28, 2011, 09:21:08 AM Great game last night, going into 11 innings, with the Cardinals scoring in the 8th, 9th, 10th, and finally 11th inning for the win.

(http://desmond.yfrog.com/Himg877/scaled.php?tn=0&server=877&filename=0hgt.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=640) http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/B/BBO_WORLD_SERIES?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2011-10-28-07-17-16 Quote This was just the third time that a team one out from elimination in the World Series came back to win the game, according to STATS LLC. The New York Mets did it with Buckner's mistake and wound up winning the championship. In 1911, the New York Giants rallied past the Philadelphia A's in Game 5, but lost the next game. Busch Stadium was still in frenzy when Freese opened the 11th with his homer off Mark Lowe. Freese thrust his arm in the air as he rounded first base, and the crowd was delirious. "Just an incredible feeling, seeing all my teammates at the dish waiting for me," said Freese, whose shirt was torn off during the celebration. Title: Re: World Series Post by: McBaman on October 28, 2011, 10:13:56 AM This game prooves Yogi's adage: It ain't over 'till it's over. Cards are looking like a team of destiny.
Title: Re: World Series Post by: MLB10 on October 28, 2011, 10:24:58 AM I hate the cardinals but as an astros fan it was good to see berkman again :-* he's dreamy.
Title: Re: World Series Post by: Jamos on October 28, 2011, 10:27:29 AM I have felt the same about them being a team of destiny as well, when they won the wild card slot over Atlanta I asked myself then could it happen.
Title: Re: World Series Post by: TheVarsity on October 28, 2011, 04:13:51 PM They may be a team of destiny, but I am still pulling for Texas. Go Rangers!

Me too, but after a demoralizing loss like that, it will be very tough for them to win tonight. I'm just hoping that St. Louis' effort last night took everything out of them & maybe they struggle tonight. I just hope Texas doesn't give up. The playoffs and the Series have been fantastic. Go Rangers. Title: Re: World Series Post by: BAMAWV on October 28, 2011, 08:57:50 PM I don't know if I have missed a single pitch. Solid baseball. Designed in 1933; worn by most every officer. Cut to the chase: St Louis has this thing under control; Texas is done. Hate it for them, but they had their chances.

Title: Re: World Series Post by: Jamos on October 28, 2011, 10:29:48 PM Well I got home just in time to see the final out, back in September you could have probably got some pretty good odds in vegas on the Cards winning the WS.
Title: Re: World Series Post by: Catch Prothro on October 29, 2011, 12:33:08 AM Go Cardinals! I know some of ya'll were rooting for the Rangers, but I've lived in both cities, Dallas/FW and St. Louis, and there is no real comparison for the gameday atmosphere @ St. Louis. (Also lived in Chicago and had season tickets to the Cubs, but that's a whole different kind of fan -- one accustomed to not winning.) St. Louis loves Cardinals baseball the way UK loves basketball . While Dallas has the Cowboys, Mavericks, and those hockey and baseball teams (probably in that order), baseball is number one priority in StL -- the StL Cardinals football team left town years ago with barely a ripple, for Arizona. ARIZONA!
So Cardinals baseball is special, with a rich history, and tradition of winning. That's probably why they became my favorite baseball team, kinda reminds me of Bama football. He won't win the full $1.5 million because he "hedged" his bet, that is, he bet against the success of his bet so he wouldn't lose the full amount. So while he bet for St. Louis to win the series, he bet against them as well, mostly is appears in individual games. RTR! I went to my first Braves same around the same time, maybe 1969 or 7o. Saw Hank Aaron hit a home run, which landed 10 yards away. I root for the Braves too, just hard to get excited about them.Title: Re: World Series Post by: Leewillie on October 30, 2011, 12:30:08 PM Been a Cardinal fan since the 1950's. Before the Braves came south, the Cardinals were the only team we could listen to on the radio. (Yes, before TV too). My family's summer vacation for several years was a trip to St.Louis to see the Cards play. How many of you remember Stan Musial, Red Schoendiest, and Enos Slaughter? 8)
