Title: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: ricky023 on February 28, 2011, 04:43:52 PM The right side fo the front page bleeds over on other pages. The Top Poster, Recent Posts Form Staff, and Top Boards are all seen on other pages. It covers up part of my post boxes and profiles and such. What can I do to fix this or can you do it as Administrator? :)
Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: SUPERCOACH on February 28, 2011, 04:52:31 PM Sorry about that. How big is your screen (in pixels)?
Thanks. Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: ricky023 on February 28, 2011, 05:06:54 PM I tried to find the pixels but I couldn't. I am kind of a novice but if it helps I've never had any problem before. Thanks.
Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: ricky023 on February 28, 2011, 05:14:22 PM Hey Supercoach, I accidentally stumbled on something. I clicked compatability view and it cleared the problem up. Sorry I took up so much time. I guess a blind hogg will find an acorn every now and then. lol

I clicked compatability view and it cleared the problem up. Sorry I took up so much time. I guess a blind hogg will find an acorn every now and then. lol No problem. That is interesting to know. I bet other people may see that problem too. The reason I asked about screen size is I think you might see a problem like that if you have a pretty small screen. My screen is 1920 x 1080 so I have plenty of room. Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: SUPERCOACH on February 28, 2011, 05:21:16 PM By the way Sir, I will be giving you +10 e-cred for being the first person to create a new topic besides me. :)
As soon as a I figure out a good way to give you +10 e-cred that is. ??? It will come around Supercoach. We are all learning somewhat as we go right now. I think you will have a great place here. Everybody will want to come onboard. Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 01, 2011, 01:08:17 PM If you guys are experiencing an issue where the right side boxes cover some of the boxes in the center and you are running Internet Explorer, ricky023 has found a work around. I just tested it myself and can confirm that it works.
Basically what you need to do is switch to compatibility view for the web site. There is a little button that you can click to do that. Look at the attachment to see a screen shot of where the button is located. I will look into trying to figure out a better solution. I think the real problem may simply be that the web page is just to wide for some smaller screens. Sorry for the inconvenience. Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: McBaman on March 01, 2011, 10:18:17 PM I was having the same bleeding over problem and fixed it by..[1] going to the ''View" dropdown menu (usually at the top of I.E.) [2] select ''zoom'' and [3] highlight "100%".
Maybe this heps some folks. Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: MDB Tide Roll on March 02, 2011, 09:01:26 PM I'm having the same issue when I use my preferred size window in Firefox. The problem is solved if I go full screen, but if someone has another fix, it would be appreciated.
Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 02, 2011, 09:04:52 PM I think it has to do with the way the HTML for the page is coded. I think I can fix it with a new theme, but it will take some time. Most people have a big enough screen that they can go full screen as a work around, but those poor souls who are running at 1024 x 768 are probably having some issues.
Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: MDB Tide Roll on March 02, 2011, 09:24:17 PM I'll gladly use full screen until you get the time to fix it.

Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 02, 2011, 09:42:07 PM I just made the left and right side bars narrower. That should help quite a bit and get us by until I can come up with a new theme.

Thank you so much! 8) Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: ssmith general on March 02, 2011, 10:01:04 PM Is there a way to show more threads on the first page? Right now the side panels are way longer than the forum section on mine. It's not a problem, but IMO we can easily have a longer first page.. Maybe it's in personal preferences and I am missing it?
Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 02, 2011, 10:32:38 PM Are you talking about the home page where the dude video is? If so then that page will grow quite a bit once we get more content. I will make sure it will show enough to keep up with the side bars.
If you are talking about the first page of a topic, then I can change that too. Let me check out a multi page topic and see how it looks. Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 02, 2011, 10:34:22 PM Yep, on this topic the first page is long enough. The home page will get that way eventually. The board index is probably too short though... I will have to think about that one. Maybe when I add the campus map on there it will be longer. The only other way to make it longer would be to add a ton of boards, which we obviously don't want to do.

If you are talking about the first page of a topic, then I can change that too. Let me check out a multi page topic and see how it looks. I mean like the home page of the quad, how many threads it shows before they go to page two. I think within the topics the setup is good. Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 02, 2011, 10:41:18 PM Your right. I just doubled it from 20 to 40. And it still is not as long as the right side bar. But... I will probably tweak that right side bar some more too.
The more you have on a page the more load it puts on the server. But, that is not a problem right now for us. :) We could put some more if we think it would be useful. It would keep things from rolling off the first page as quickly. I just made them a little tiny bit bigger. Let me know if that causes a problem. Thanks, and have some e-cred. It might be me, but now the left side is longer than the right. LOL, it doesnt matter I keep most of them minimized just FYI. Do you have stats where you can tell if the longer page is affecting the load speed? Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 03, 2011, 11:11:06 AM I think we are fine on the load speed for now. The bottom of every page shows how long it took the server to create the page. This does not account for the time needed to send the page of the internet, which will vary from person to person. But just based on the page creation time we are smoking right now. I am looking at the time for this page and it is saying 0.182 seconds. Compare that to some of the page times on the old server. I remember seeing 10 to 15 seconds, and occasionally more, on a regular basis.
Eventually I might add a feature so that people can pick and choose which sidebar blocks they like to show, but that may take a little while. Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: ricky023 on March 03, 2011, 11:21:11 AM I gotta say everything on my page is great now. I am just thrilled as I can be. If it gets any better I may sleep with my computer. lol, RTR!
Title: Re: Bleeding over on other pages Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 06, 2011, 08:39:24 AM The bleeding over issue should be resolved now with the new graphics. You should not need compatibility view any more. It should work on any screen size and will show a horizontal scroll bar if the screen is below 1024 x 768.
I am going to turn off the sticky on this topic now. If you see any other problems please let me know. Thanks. |
