Title: CBS going all out for Alabama-LSU game

Quote
The three-man Action Cam crew responsible for the overhead, suspended camera was busy unloading their trailer behind Bryant-Denny Stadium as the lunchtime crowd filed by.

In all, a crew of 75 will handle broadcasting the game around the country. It takes four to operate the floating camera setup that began Tuesday.

“In a stadium like this, if we can get the points up high and to the far corners, it just opens up the flight space for the camera,” said P.J. Bennett of Action Cam. “This is like a NFL stadium.”

In all, the equipment is valued at $500,000 with the camera itself representing half the total.

“Just the lens itself is $50,000,” Bennett said. “So this isn’t cheap equipment.”

Correction, it's better than many NFL stadiums.

It's also been filled to capacity more times than NFL Owners could possibly hope for their own stadiums.

I'm predicting there will be a new record of viewers for this game. I'm also betting there will be mega commercials for this one and that means a looooooong game.

No problem scheduling commercials, though.  There will be plenty of 3-and-out series, which calls for (boring) commercials after each.

Yep, looooong game.

LOL. He was talking about the 4 suspension points. But they also mentioned the stadiums of ND and the Little Rock stadium the Hogs use being inadequate. It would seem that if there was any chance of affecting a game, the overhead camera would not be used.

I remember the days when the Athletic Department shot their own game film. Don't think this happens anymore.

When you said CBS was going to go all out, I thought you meant Verne was going to broadcast naked.  :o

That would give new meaning to the old Keith Jackson term of "big uglies"

and some of the students are planning a jump around ...  http://cw.ua.edu/2011/11/03/jump-for-tuscaloosa-event-planned-for-saturdays-game/

Quote
The original video is from a Utah State basketball game, where the student section participated in a chant and “jump around.” Gardner changed the words of the chant to “We believe that we will win,” although the jumping remains the same. The chant will begin when the stadium’s countdown clock reaches two minutes, right before kickoff.

Gardner said he hopes that with the participation of the student section, the “We Believe, Jump Around,” as he calls it, will help make Bryant-Denny “the loudest and best stadium in the country.”

“I saw this as an opportunity to show our players how much we believe in them, as they have believed in us all year and have played for 4-27-11 this whole season by dominating opponents week in and week out,” Gardner said. “I want us to ‘jump for Tuscaloosa’ as a way of everyone uniting in a jump to hype up our players, as well as the whole nation watching on TV, and most importantly, for everyone to jump as a community to show that we believe in this city and our University coming back strong through Alabama football and this 2011 season.”

“It’s more than just a chant for the game – it’s about the whole town,” said Golson, who is excited to see that the cheer has become a reality. “There is so much to play for – more than just the game, but for the entire city of Tuscaloosa, the state of Alabama and Alabama fans everywhere.”
