I'll reserve judgement until all the facts are known.

These guys are kicking off the silly season early.  It is not even summer, is it spring break in the States?

It is Spring break for UA and au, not sure about the rest.

I made the last comment somewhat in jest due to all of the off-field issues that have popped up recently, but the whole situation in the case of Derek and this girl is sad no matter what the truth turns out to be.

On one hand, it places a permanent mark on his name regardless if he did it or not just because of the accusation and the doubt that will always follow him.  Even if he is cleared, he may still lose scholarship opportunities that he once had.

If he did do it, it is still very hard to convict him of the crime if it comes down to he said, she said as it is hard to know who is telling the truth if there is no physical evidence of abuse or force.  And, motives and doubts can always be created for both sides.  In that case, the girl (who was brave enough to come forward) loses again.  She’ll have to stand in a courtroom full of strangers and reporters and reveal everything he did to her  and get no closure out of it as he goes free to go on to play CFB somewhere.

The whole thing is bad all the way around. But, like I said, I hold judgement until after as none of us know any of the details or facts as of yet.

The girl showed signs of "trauma" at the hospital.  I just don't understand these guys. They HAVE to know better.  I don't know what the age of consent is there - but if she is below the age of consent - things will be even worse I think.
I HOPE things work out for him and that he can get his act together.

Not to be crude, but even that is subject to interpretation.  Signs of trauma is very vague and could have stemmed from various things before, during, or after the alleged incident of rape (as he readily admits having sex with her).

I'm truly not discounting or attempting to discredit the girl's story in any way, I'm just reiterating that all the facts are not known and may never be known.  The creation of stories of assault due to remorse or other more vindictive reasons are hardly new territory (especially when young emotions and hormones are involved).

Hopefully, the truth will be reveled and the parties will receive the severest of punishments if found guilty of either the actual crime of rape (for which there are few worse crimes IMO) or the false allegation (which is just as bad IMO as it makes so many other real rapes that much more difficult to prove and permanently damages an innocent reputation for malicious reasons)

Like I said, it is sad all the way around for many reasons.
