Title: Bulletin Board Material for Pregame LSU

LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery committed football blasphemy, at least in the minds of Alabama fans, when he was asked earlier this week about Bear Bryant.

"I don't know anything about Bear Bryant," Montgomery said. "I really haven't looked at film that much."

Apparently, Montgomery thought he was being asked about one of the current Alabama players.

When told that Bryant was a former coach at Alabama, Montgomery responded, "Oh, a coach. I have no idea. I wouldn't know anything about that. Too way back for me. I thought Bear Bryant was a player."

That made my heart hurt. It made my brain ask how the HALE you play college football (real football) with no effin knowledge of Bear "I AM football" Bryant. Actually, how you have made it this far in life being as braindead as he apparently is. Seriously? I would doubt his ability to walk and breathe at the same time if I didn't know he played football. If he turns blue and passes out Saturday, it might not be Trent's fault.

News doesn't travel fast in the swamps, I'm not surprised to hear him say that.  ;)

"There's so much pride on both sides, and we're going to find out who can raise their level of play the most," Alabama running back Trent Richardson said. "This is a grown man's game.

"If you don't fall into that group, then don't show up."

That about sums it up.  So, who are these pantywaists who are calling TR on his cell?  Just that.

I think he was lying - just trying to get a dig in - trying to sound like Alabama didn't mean anything. There isn't a college football player alive who hasn't heard of Coach Bryant.

No, Terrie, some of these Louisiana people really are that stupid.  I grew up in New Orleans.  Most of them can't name their current head coach, and none of them can spell it.

He thought right. Bear was a player which many college football fans do not know. If he has ever watched a Bama game on the tv he's heard of the Bear.  :dunno: :dunno:

I think you might be right considering the "I haven't watched much film" comment.  I hope he really hasn't watched much film.  He won't know what is coming.

I agree with both of you. He knows who Bear Bryant is. It was a snarky comment. He might be interested to know my avatar is watching.

I am mystified to why some of my fellow posters think this is a big deal. How many of our players have heard of Ara Parsegian (3 NC'c), Bud Wilkinson, Pop Warner, or Tom Osbourne? Those are some of the greatest coaches ever in college football. I'm not real shocked that a 20 or 21 year old kid from outside of Alabama has never heard of Coach Bryant. Some of you make it sound like every kid in the country should have to attend a class in high school called Bear Bryant 101.

 ???

Bear Bryant 101 starts at 7cdt.

BTW, Marshal is dead on. They can't name Presidents past Clinton Bush.

Do you really think he hasn't watched any Bama film in the last 2 weeks?

I'm sure some of those kids have never heard of him, especially the LSU guy from Australia.  But I don't believe he hasn't watched much film.  It was a smart aleck comment.

Don't sweat it, guys. Even if he doesn't know who CPB was, Messrs. Vlachos, Jones, Fluker and Co. will be more than happy to introduce themselves to Montgomery. I imagine Mr. Richardson will also get in on the introductions as well.

Again, why do you think he's watched film about Coach Bryant? In between practice, class, watching game film, playing video games, and chasing girls he might be to busy to watch anything about Coach Bryant. I hate to shatter some myths, but Coach Bryant is not a universal subject on the lips of every breathing person. My son's best friend, who attends Alabama, doesn't even like football, he's into hunting & fishing and other outdoor activities. Not trying to slam anyone or make fun, but really guys, there is a real world out there.

Not talking about film of Coach Bryant.  I'm talking about game film of the team he will be playing tonight.

They aren't called the "Me" generation for nothing (LOL). Coonasses particularly believe that life ends north of I-10. What gets me more is when a supposedly professional journalist speaks of Alabama's storied past, then begins it with Shaun Alexander. ???

Now, that I agree with. Not much of a "journalist" when he hasn't done even his most basic research.

There was a link on here yesterday like that. I'd dig it up, but I'm busy punching our NC ticket at the moment. RTR
