Title: Missouri 101: All SEC fans need to know about the new 14th member Post by: pmull on November 06, 2011, 04:58:44 PM Here's a primer on the SEC's 14th member, including on-field success, off-field finances, NCAA violations, comparisons with SEC members, and longstanding traditions you might want to learn before Missouri joins in 2012.
(http://media.al.com/sports_impact/photo/missouri-logojpg-9a4fb90d971a86d6.jpg) Missouri has been to six straight bowl games. Three of Missouri's five seasons of 10 wins or more have come since 2007, including a 12-2 year in '07 in which the Tigers were ranked No. 1 at one point. Between 1984 and 2002, Missouri had only two winning seasons and never won more than eight games. Missouri's highest final Associated Press Poll ranking was No. 4 in 2007. The Tigers haven't won a conference championship since they were co-Big Eight champions in 1969. Missouri lost to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship Game twice, 38-17 in 2007 and 62-21 in 2008. The Tigers have a 12-16 bowl record, including wins over Arkansas at the 2008 Cotton Bowl and over South Carolina at the 2005 Independence Bowl. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/11/missouri_101_all_sec_fans_need.html Title: Re: Missouri 101: All SEC fans need to know about the new 14th member Post by: Marshal Dillon on November 06, 2011, 05:02:08 PM How did they get a 12-16 bowl record with so few winning seasons?

Hope this helps.

I love the town and the people are down to earth, normal types of folks. Missouri looks like Alabama with all the forests and rivers. I got to see some good baseball at Royals stadim in the 1980's, including being directly behind home plate when Roger Clemens was pitching for the Red Sox. He struck out 15 that day and it was awesome.

The school is also an AAU member, which means even more gobs of money and an excellent academic reputation, which I think comes in a distant second to the decision making powers-that-be in the SEC to the gobs of money. |
