Title: Who Replaces Paterno next year?
Post by: carl childers on November 10, 2011, 08:16:03 AM
I know this subject pales in comparison to the issues at hand, but it does bear asking. Since Paterno has been the HC at PSU for 46 years, it will be a shocker to see someone different on the sidelines next year. Who might it be?

Urban Meyer could take his pick between PSU and OSU.  Which one do you think he wants?  I think he is from Ohio, but they will be on probation for a while.  PSU probably won't be on probation, but there is a totally different set of issues to deal with.  Or is there another high profile job that might open up by the end of the season?

Here is the problem with Urban: I believe with all that has gone on, PSU wants to go with someone who is squeaky clean. UM had problems with players breaking the law at UF, and I don't know that PSU wants any hint of problems to come to PSU.

Didn't we have a talk about this, around the Arkansas or Florida game?

Well as I ponder on this thought, maybe one of their alumni who is coaching somewhere. Not sure where yet. RTR!

Hey 57, that was a good thought but he is to much lost in the NFL. He didn't do well there I don't think he would do well in college football. JMHO! RTR!

The hire needs to be outside the Penn State family. They need a 100% fresh start with no ties to the school or old staff.

And it will have to be somebody willing to go through very tough times. I don't see a major player, coach-wise, taking the job.

Wouldn't it be something if they pulled the plug on football for a year!  It's possible.  The Board of Trustees is pretty disgusted with the whole mess.  :popcorn2:

It wouldn't surprise me.  How did none of the BOT know anything about this?  If they knew anything about Sandusky, then they are also to blame.

I think that is a good point that nobody is talking about much, Jody. When DID the BOT know something and when did they know it? I guess then it would come down to the governor of Pa. to step in and relieve people of their position if something was known prior?

In today's college football world will they give up all the money for a year? That is what college football is all about now it seems to me in all Universities. What you think? RTR!

Right preacher. Without the football revenue colleges could not fund the rest of their athletic programs except maybe basketball at some schools.

Try this list:

The Joe Paterno era soon will be over and for the first time since 1965, Penn State has to find a football coach.

The school doesn't have a permanent athletic director and its administration has been rocked by the Jerry Sandusky scandal. But at some point, the school will begin its search.

Here are some potential candidates for the job:

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7212610/head-coaching-candidates-replace-joe-paterno-penn-state-college-football

My pick is Al Golden.

I would have to say from that list, it would be Al Golden or Kirk Ferentz. I still believe they bring someone who has played or coached there. Mostly due to the family atmosphere much like we have here at Alabama. RTR!

A smaller school?  Probably would end the rest of the season.  Unfortunately, the big schools are too much of a money cow that the University's depend on.  In the scheme of things college is a business and they chose to make a bad business decision.
