Title: Tide set to open season tonight against North Florida
Post by: pmull on November 11, 2011, 10:28:11 AM
Anthony Grant and the Crimson Tide will officially open the 2011-2012 season tonight when they host the North Florida Ospreys of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The game, scheduled to tip off at 7:00pm CST in Coleman Coliseum, will not be televised (one of only four this year where that will be the case).

Alabama's biggest goal for the first month or two of the season is to find an identity and to gel as a team with a mostly new lineup and a young roster. In the meantime, though, the team must get at least some decent results and at all costs avoid losses to teams such as North Florida. The coaches and fans will be looking to see how the team plays, what defense is employed and which is most effective, and which players step up to fill key roles on offense and defense. Those things are all important, but the most important thing is to get to 1-0. Hope for the best.

I am glad BB is getting back, I think CAG we lead us back to where we need to be. I know we have some young men in the back court, but they learn upfront and then will be great on the big run of the season. RTR!

I'm just hoping that the perimeter game will improve this year. Tide was atrocious from behind the last year. If we can get a good inside-outside game going, we can definitely make some noise in the conference and beyond.

They're up 56-33 with a little over 5 minutes left.

Bama wins 64-44. A win is a win, but I would think they would need to improve on this.

It was an ugly win, very physical with a couple of refs that had a quick whistle. I think Bama made 16-18 free throws.

They shot OK from the line last year. Not 89%. RTR

Alabama went 15-for-17 from FT line. That's 88.2 percent. Not bad.

Quote
Green scored 18 points and Tony Mitchell added 17, and together Alabama's big men nearly outscored North Florida by themselves.

They led the Crimson Tide to a season-opening 64-44 victory over the Ospreys on Friday night at Coleman Coliseum.

Alabama was held scoreless for 7:46 in the first half, but it held North Florida scoreless for the last 7:25 and led 29-16 at halftime.

The Tide led by as many as 24 points in the second half.

North Florida sank only 13 of 56 shots from the field (23.2 percent), including 3 of 21 shots from the perimeter (14.3 percent).

Alabama sank 22 of 54 shots (40.7 percent), including 5 of 16 shots from 3-point range.

The Tide outrebounded North Florida 43-41. Mitchell had a game-high 10 rebounds.
