Title: Poll: What's your favorite coffee brand to brew at home?
Post by: Coach Hank Crisp on November 13, 2011, 07:33:35 PM
For years I have used Maxwell House, then Folgers.

About 10 years ago I read where "Eight O'Clock" coffee was rated the best coffee in "Consumer Reports."

I tried it and since then I buy Eight O'Clock - 100% Colombia - Whole Bean.

It is now my favorite. I still buy Folgers, only when I can't get Eight O'Clock!

Quote
When purchasing your next bag of blended coffee at the grocery store, think again.

Starbucks and Green Mountain Coffee offer the best coffee blends, according to a Consumer Reports survey released last week.

Out of 37 caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee blends tested, Starbucks House Blend and Green Mountain Signature Nantucket Blend Medium Roast were ranked No. 1 and No. 2, with a "Good" label. None of the blends received an "excellent" or "very good" label.

The magazine tested for "smoothness and complexity, with no off-flavors."

"The beans should be neither under-roasted nor charred, and the brew should have at least moderate aroma and flavor, and subtle top notes. Some sourness and bitterness are desirable, too, to keep the coffee from tasting bland," the report stated.

Other blends ranked as "good" included Dunkin’ Donuts Dark Roast and original blend medium; Archer Farms (Target breakfast blend); Sam’s Choice house blend medium roast (available at Walmart stores); Eight O’Clock original; Seattle’s Best breakfast blend; and Folgers house blend medium.

Christopher  Bean Kona. I can only find it at Publix. Not 100% Kona, but pretty close. Kona coffee is the only coffee grown on U.S. soil. Fine stuff!!!

I like the 8'o clock columbian whole bean.  There was a time where you could find Celestial Seasonings Organic Caramel Mocha Whole Bean, but I think it is no longer made.  It was my favorite.  It would have coffee oils all over the top of the cup, sooooo good.  Are you using a French Press?  If not, you should do yourself a favor and try it.  Best coffee ever.

I haven't bought a "French Press" but I will try it now. Thanks!

They are at Target or Marshall's/TJMaxx.  Just give your beans a rough grind and then pour your hot water (we use an electric tea kettle) over the beans for 4 minutes.  WHen your time is up, stir and then press the plunger down and enjoy.  It gives a great rich flavor and feels very full bodied.  I know it is more work than a coffee pot but honestly once you taste it you'll think it's worth the trouble.

We have a "Bunn" residential coffee maker.

It stores hot water in back of it and then when you add cold water it boils the hot stored water almost instantly for a pot.

Works very well. I usually make only 2 cups at a time but can make a pot if needed.

We bought one of those because my in-laws drink a ton of coffee and we were hoping when we had kids that they would visit a lot.  Well, 7 years later the coffee pot is at our church in our Sunday School room.  I don't drink coffee daily...2-3 times a week.  Hubby almost never drinks it at home.

The woman joined some kind of cult club and we have a huge variety. We drink 1 pot a day (morning) and 75% of that is me. We sometimes have an emergency pot. Always whole bean. We enjoy the variety but the old faithful is Folgers. Dunkin' Donuts is good. Some of the arabian coffee smells like wet sneakers. JMHO

I have always liked Eight O'Clock. At one time I think it was sold exclusively by A&P grocery stores. As a kid I thought it was neat for my Mother to buy the coffee and they ground the beans at the check-out counter. It always smelled so good when they ground the beans.

I like the Dunkin Donuts. I think it is much better than Starbucks.

Eight O'Clock is my everyday favorite coffee.  Occasionally I will treat myself to Kona when I can get it.  I have a relative who travels to Hawaii on business regularly so I have my own underground supply line. 8)

I voted ham sammich. Not a coffee drinker. I like diet Coke and Monster energy drinks.

I like the coffee my company buys but I don't know the name of it right off
I never make it and haven't seen the name on the package
all I know is that UPS just drops it off from wherever coffee comes from

I just call it "the free" stuff ...

I voted "other"

I like Starbucks and Seattle's Best.  I think they're the most flavorful.  It's hard to find good coffee at a reasonable price in China so I bring or ask people to ship me bags of Starbucks whole bean.

My wife's aunt brought me a whole bunch of Indonesian coffee a couple of weeks ago.  It's okay but not great.  Very mild and not much flavor.

The first time I was in Indonesia I wanted to buy some kopi luwak (the cat poop coffee) but it's almost $15 a cup so I decided against it.  I've had it once before and it was good but not worth that much money.

I saw kopi luwak on the "Bucket List" movie, but I 've never had any. I had ho idea it was that expensive. Never will have any.

I didn't pay for it when I had it.  One of my wife's family friends from Beijing who does business in Indonesia had been given some as a gift but he doesn't drink coffee.

I have to be careful with my caffeine intake so I use the non-leaded coffee, Maxwell House or Folgers mostly.

I've never told you this before, but it is virtually impossible to have large breasts and a sharp wit at the same time. So are you happy with the trade-off?  :-*
