Just some observations, Bama has a great defense. Even though Maryland wasn't a good shooting team, they took only the shots that Bama gave them, and they didn't hit many. Bama is better at the outside shot than last year, at least they were early. I have to hand it to them, once they went cold with the perimeter shooting, they started hammering the ball down low with better results, even though Maryland blocked many layups and short jumpers. Bama just flat missed some easy shots too, but working the ball down low is really what kept them well ahead in the 2nd half. Green continues to get into foul trouble, in fact there were lots of fouls by both teams today. Refs seemed to be calling the game tight. We didn't exactly light it up from the free throw line either.

But what I see is a team dedicated to great defense. That "D" will win us games while the freshmen improve on their scoring, and the team gelling offensively, as games progress. This should be a fun year to watch Tide basketball.

I was able to see the second half. Bama won this game easily. Maryland got their 40th point with 37 seconds left in the game. Bama played a zone and Maryland could not shoot us out of it. Maryland played man-to-man which surprised me.  We worked the ball around the perimeter and eventually find an opening to the basket. We were much quicker and athlectic than they were. I thought they would go to a zone but they never did. I don't know how good Maryland is but we looked great. Tony Mitchell was the player of the game.

And LSU should have beaten a Big 10 team (Nortwestern), but blew a big halftime lead. Miss. St. is up by 9 at halftime on ranked TAMU. The SEC may not be the perennial cupcake conference this year.

C'mon! The SEC is tied for 3rd of all the conferences in NCAA championships. The PAC 10 has 13 (all those UCLA/Wooden years), the ACC has 12, the SEC has 10.

We put 2 teams in the elite 8 last season. 1 in the final 4. No perennial kupkake.

The SEC in football used to be known as Bama and everybody else. The SEC in basketball is usually Kentucky, Florida and everybody else. The SEC was really bad last year. From top to bottom, for a change, they s/b better this year.
