Title: Virus Protection
Post by: BAMAWV on March 18, 2011, 10:20:11 PM
The fine folks at AVG called the house today and said if I keep reading Bleacher Report they will revoke my free download.

A lot of people mistake spyware for virus'.  Bleacher report is spyware.  If you run Firefox and download adblock and script block, you will not have to worry any longer.

Commercial anti-virus programs are a scam IMO.  I had tons of problems a couple of years ago and my mcaffee subscription did nothing for me.

There is a free program called malwarebytes that works better than anything out there.  It's all about the updates.

So, in summary, I dont know what AVG is, Bleacher Report is no worse than your womans shopping sites, download firefox and get adblock and noscript, and then download and update and run malwarebytes.

Then go on with your life.

What about Spybot - Search and Destroy?
Isn't that good on spyware?

It used to be the best, but doesnt get updated properly anymore.  If you run spybot right now, you'll get 2 or 3 spyware programs.  If you've never run malwarebytes, look out.  LOL.  It will find tons of junk that spybot leaves behind.

better or worse?  Mine is working pretty well, dont know about messing with it.  I will check on the laptop later.  I just installed firefox on it a couple of weeks ago so maybe it's the new one.  I can say I havent noticed any difference between the computers (except that I hate windows 7).

I just found out what was up with my ad block , I needed to download a subscription
took about 20 seconds

I like it but it takes a little getting use to

I have 7 too , still not as happy as I was with xp pro

I have used ESET (Nod32) for about 8 years - ever since a virus wrecked my computer.   I buy it for 2 years at a time and it has caught every virus that has hit any computer I owned.  I buy single owner and load it on Kokopuf's and my 3 computers.  If you're interested, here's a direct linkhttp://www.eset.com/us/search-brand?CMP=KNC-g-ag&gclid=CPnEus-DgagCFQli2godQiU6rA (http://www.eset.com/us/search-brand?CMP=KNC-g-ag&gclid=CPnEus-DgagCFQli2godQiU6rA).

The techie who repaired my computer tho those many years ago told me about it.  Whenever we get a new computer, I have to get rid of Norton, then I download Eset and voila everything works like a charm! :D
