Talk about finishing with a flurry.

It's not that Brad Smelley has had a super quiet career. He really hasn't. But the senior tight end has been a pass-catching machine of late for Alabama after earning back-to-back starts.

He hauled in a game-high and career-high six catches for 86 yards and a touchdown in his final Iron Bowl appearance Saturday. In his final home game the week before, the 6-foot-3, 229-pounder had a game-high four catches for 58 yards and two touchdowns.

That's 10 catches for 144 yards and three touchdowns in the last two games. Contrast that with the 17 catches for 173 yards he had in Bama's 10 previous games this season. For his career, Smelley has 47 catches for 520 yards and four TDs.

Smelley has suddenly gone Julio as his college career draws to a close.

And it comes at a good time for the Tide. It's had the defense all season. And Trent Richardson. And a rapidly maturing A.J. McCarron. But what Bama's really been missing this season is another consistent, top-notch pass-catching threat to go along with Marquis Maze.

Guys like Darius Hanks, Kenny Bell and DeAndrew White have all had their moments this season, but none of them have been as effective as Smelley has been these last two games.

I think Smelley has worked himself into  position to have a chance to play at the next level, he has really stepped up his game the second half of the season.

He really has looked great over the past few games. Kudos to BS. I hope he has one more great game.  :D

His time at Alabama has gone by fast. it does not seem like he has been there for 4 years. It is nice to see him finishing his career on a high note. He played a great game yesterday. He kept the chains moving and had a big TD catch.

I remember watching him as a freshman and thinking that he will not be much of a factor at Bama. He has really stepped his game up this year and I was glad to see him go out against Auburn with a bang. I hope he can show up big against LSU. The only problem, and this is not Smelley's fault, is that sometimes AJ locks in on Smelley and refuses to look anywhere else. But AJ is growing and will learn to not do that. Roll Tide!
