This is whole "coaches as pedophiles" thing seems to have the potential to turn into another Catholic priest scandal. One case is brought out, and then there is an avalanche of other cases

What he is alleged to done is horrible and despicable. That said, I am a little sadden by the rush to judgement on his guilt by his employer. Evidently in a 24-7 media world, innocent until proven guilty doesn't mean much.

When audio surfaces revealing that his own wife has suspicions about him abusing children I'm not sure the university had much choice.  Regardless of what is proved or not proved in court I think the university made the right decision here.  If he was just an average worker at a 9-5 job it might be different, but as he is an assistant coach at one of the most high profile basketball programs in the country the school can't afford that kind of negative publicity.

watch this report http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/7286347/otl-audio-tape-syracuse-orange-assistant-bernie-fine-wife-admits-worries-abuse it should help put things in prospective .
the DA and Police have copies of this recording , I'm certain the folks at SU have been privy to it too .
this is a really wild story and everyone involved seems a little strange in one way or another .
not hard to see why SU fired him though ...

Eh, if he is proven innocent, he can always sue/ask for back pay and reinstatement.  It's not like he's living hand to mouth as a basketball coach at big university.  On the other hand, if you risk him doing this to a current ball boy all for the sake of 'innocent til proven guilty' (which is a judicial system thing...your employer isn't beholden to that) then you open yourself up for MAJOR lawsuits.  Even in a family abuse situation, sexual abuse is one of those things where (with compelling evidence) they act first, investigate later.  The risk is too great.

I have to seriously scratch my head over the ball boy who came out saying he thought that was normal adult/child behavior.  DO HUH?  I can understand if his hand accidentally brushed your crotch it could be an accidental thing, but if your ding dong is out or his ding dong is out...that ain't right.  At 7 my son knows the only person who should touch is junk is a doctor and that's IF we are around and it is during an examination.  I even tell him that his dad and I are not supposed to touch under his underwear anymore.  Maybe his parents didn't drill this into him, but it just seems weird that anyone would think it was normal.  Maybe he was extremely sheltered or previously molested???

Syracuse University declared Sunday that the contract of assistant men's basketball coach Bernie Fine has been terminated in the middle of a kid molestation scandal. Fine, who will turn 66 in Dec., has been charged by three individuals. Boeheim, who has denied knowledge of any events of child molestation, faces cries of sanction by agencies such as the Survivor's Network for Those Abused by Priests (SNAP). If he is truly proven guilty then he must be responsible for it.He must act accordingly.

Boeheim just doesn't sound credible.  At the press conference yesterday he denied hearing the tape of Bernie's wife.  Sure!  The dirt has spread across the coaching staff.

They better clean house. The stink is going to last long enough as it is. Syracuse needs to show they are serious and get rid of Boeheim too. No way he hasn't heard that tape.

No doubt that Boeheim has gone into a full court press in trying to protect himself, I think he refered to himself as anything happening under my watch.  :dunno:

Yeah, I heard that.  I kept thinking of that quote from Switzer (re Penn State): "Everyone On That Staff Had To Have Known."

Seems like Boeheim is being REALLY arrogant about the whole thing, too, acting like he is untouchable. I think the 'Cuse needs to follow the lead of the PSU BOT and clean house, starting with the main man. I don't think its possible for the HC who had such a good friendship with his assistant, not to know SOMETHING about the situation, even if he didn't know all the details.
