TUSCALOOSA — Interest from potential new employers helped sweeten Kirby Smart’s bank account after each of the past two seasons.

It’s not even December and the Alabama defensive coordinator’s name is already surfacing for the growing list of head coaching vacancies.

A website covering Ole Miss detailed possible interest in Smart late last week. Rebelgrove.com reported Smart could interview for the job later this week, but Alabama coach Nick Saban said no school had contacted him for permission to speak with him as of Monday afternoon.

“I think Kirby will make an outstanding head coach. Leadership is really an important part of being the head of anything, a business or whatever it is,” Saban said. “I think Kirby is a great leader. He’s done a great job with what he’s been responsible for, which I think is also a big indication because you have to have leadership qualities, the ability to demand that people do things the right way.”

Smart, a Saban assistant for seven seasons in three places, certainly won’t lack the energy required for a head job.

Coaching from the field, he’s easily the most animated sideline inhabitant. Smart regularly sprints up and down the bench, adjusting plays and formations just before the ball is snapped.

“Coach Smart, he’s energetic all the time,” nose guard Josh Chapman said. “In the film room, on the field, the guy always brings energy to the table. That’s one thing that we feed off. The guy, he’s a great coach, couldn’t ask for better.”

I just can not believe Coach Smart will go to Ole Miss and try to fix that disaster. I would wish him the best but from a National Champion team to a team that has no hope they can't even make the students resist ruining their mascot. That says to me you have people telling what you can and cannot do at Ole Miss. RTR!

Something tells me he isn't going to Ole miss.
