Title: "Auburn needs a quarterback like Jameis Winston in the worst way"
Post by: Chechem on November 30, 2011, 11:06:54 AM
...and Jameis needs Auburn like a dog needs roller skates.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - If you watched the Iron Bowl, you know Auburn has multiple issues at multiple positions as it tries to build itself back into a contender for, first things first, the state title.

If you watched the Game of the Century, the warm-up act for the Rematch of the Century, you know that championship teams can center on a player other than the one who takes the snap from center...

Quote
Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, running backs coach Curtis Luper and wide receivers coach Trooper Taylor spent three hours at the Winston home. That visit alone has created some serious buzz in the recruiting world.

Quote
One reason, perhaps, is that Alabama has been blitzing the two-sport star with affection to try to change his mind. Nick Saban himself paid Winston  :eyeroll: a visit Monday.

Coach Saban went to the Hueytown- Benjamin Russell football and stood on the sidelines and watched Winston play during the off week before the LSU game.

I can remember Coach Bryant coming to a Hueytown game in the late 1960s looking at a player.

Is he so special and Auburn so desperate that the Tigers failed to live up to one of their own self-imposed sanctions to pay him a visit? One of the more intriguing documents Auburn released Nov. 4 - after the NCAA ended its long investigation of the program without alleging any major violations - involved the recruitment of Winston.

Auburn admitted to two impermissible contacts with him from the April, 2010 Tiger Prowl and self-imposed a recruiting ban. As a result, according to an October 2010 letter from Auburn attorney William King to SEC Commissioner Mike Slive, Auburn said its football staff would not have off-campus contact with Winston for 60 days "from late November 2011 until January 2012."

Oops.

The barn is desparate. Why self-impose a recruiting ban if you don'y plan on honoring it? The recruit that was going to be all world Zeke Pike from Kentucky was supended twice from high schools games for off the field problems. The barn has 3 QB's coming back, one committed and going after more. They better hope some of these QB's can play offensive and defensive line.

Based on what the Aubs have done to their QBs this season, I understand why the title says "worst way"; he's better off elsewhere (almost anywhere else).

What will it take for the barn to get Winston?

Okay, Leroy, spill it.  What's up?  WV specializes in compassion; us, not so much.
IDK how this is for compassion but I'll take a stab at it-- Leroy is probably logging on here to try and escape, for a little, from his medical realities and everyone dragging him out with questions isn't helping. Roll Tide, Leroy.

Hope tomorrow is better, Leroy.  My apologies; RTR.
