Opposing fans are quick to see it as another example of Alabama fans living in the past. Others at the very least look at it as a nod to or homage to the greatest coach in Alabama’s – and arguably all of college football’s – history. It is that, but it’s also so much more. Alabama’s fans aren’t pining for Coach Bryant. There’s no hole in the Alabama tradition from his passing almost thirty years ago; quite the contrary. Coach Bryant accomplished what few great men throughout history accomplished: he overcame the void left by his passing by leaving something even greater — he created a legacy.
