I think by now all Tide fans have accepted the inevitable fact that we will be losing our beloved defensive coordinator Kirby Smart to a head coaching job. While we certainly will miss his contributions, he has earned the opportunity to run his own program. Alabama fans now need to simply say thank you, wish him well and hope that he stays through the bowl game. We can at least have some fun with it though, so why not try and handicap the possible destinations?

There are going to be quite a few turns of the coaching carousel this off-season and CKS willl have choices.  I hope he goes to a place where he has a high probablilty of being successful, and one where he can learn all that's involved in being a head coach, running a program, etc.

My advice would be to not start out at an SEC or other big school.  Maybe a middle of the pack PAC-12 or Big 12 school.  He can probably win quite a few games if he could bring a solid D to either one of those leagues.

Bingo. I think an ACC or even Conference USA would be good. If he can win at teams like Memphis, East Carolina, N.C. State, USF, then he can win elsewhere.

Kirby in Kansas?  If he can recruit some defensive players he can own that league.

I would love to see Kirby go somewhere like that and dominate the big boys with a solid D.

I don't really see a good fit for him at Kansas. That's like taking over for Capt. Smith on the Titanic after it's hit the iceberg. I think TAMU  would be a good fit. He knows the SEC and he knows defense. He's a very good recruiter. With TAMU coming to the SEC. I think KS would be a good choice.

I think aTm would be a great place for him if they were staying in the Big 12.  But in the SEC?  This is a tough league to get your start as a head coach.

I really thing he would do better with them in the SEC. KS has cut his teeth here and would be able to develop a decent defense in the SEC as opposed to an offense dominated BIG 12. His recruiting skills have been strong in the SEC as well.

Ya’ll are all wrong!!

Coach Kirby Smart is a young man!

He should take the challenge!!!

Throw down the gauntlet!

Go to Texas AM!

Compete in the best conference in the best division in college football.

The SEC WEST!!!!

If men in this country start to shy away from huge challenges.

Then this country is more screwed!!!

There will be less successful men in this country!

This country needs more successful men who are willing to get out of the their comfort zones and do something!!!!

Take the hard job! Never going  be nothing by taking the easy job!!!

No one gave you a free pass in this life!!!

Coach Kirby Smart is 10 foot tall and bulletproof!

Go to Texas AM and never look back!!!!!!

Momma and daddy never said told me life was easy!!!!

What’s the hells wrong with you people picking out the easy jobs?????

Ask Urban Meyer if he thinks a new head coach should start out in the SEC.  :dunno:

I have no come back about Urban. And don't care for his opinion.

He sure disappointed a bunch of Gator fans with his behavior!!!

I am talking about taking a hard job and proving youself capable and being a successful men.

I know Coach Bryant wouldn't have chosen the easy, less challenging path to success!!!

You of all people SC know this!!

You mean the guy who started out at Maryland?

Success is a process too, and if you get in over your head you may not ever get the opportunity to be successful.

Things aren't looking so bright for Will Muschamp or Derek Dooley right now, for example.  Dabo on the other hand, has his team playing for the conference championship tomorrow.  He might get stomped, but at least he is playing for it and he had his team in the top 10 for a while until they remembered who they are.

I have read all the posts and they are good, but thinking on this for a while and I come to the conclusion of this: He should stay at Alabama and try for back to back titles and then his stock will really sore. JMHO! RTR!

You have to take chances in this life.

Bryant took what life handed him as an opportunity and ran with it.

I am sure Bryant would have taken the best, most challenging job offered.

You cannot be afraid of failure. You might never get an opportunity like the present one.

I remember the giant "M" and giant "K" and giant "TAM" flower arrangements at Elmwood cemetery.

Who's to say Coach Kirby Smart won't have giant arrangements in his honor one day?

He could go to Texas AM, win. Move to where ever and win and end up the next Vince Lombardi!

Maryland, Kentucky, THEN aTM.  That is the process.  THEN Momma, if she calls.

I can't really remember EVER thinking a successful coach at Bama should hit the road.

I'm with Hank. If the BIG job opens up, give it all you got. At worst, you did your best and are comfortable ($$$) for the next few years while you regroup.

If usm's coach goes to ole miss, that would be a good place to get his head coaching legs under him.  I think aTm is too much too soon.  Ole miss is a dumpster fire and it would take years to fix...people in the sec are too impatient for that. (eg, Dooley)
