So we meet again

Oklahoma State gives a valiant effort, but there's just no swaying the voters. Jerry Palm reports that we will see No. 1 LSU face off against No. 2 Alabama for the BCS national championship in New Orleans

Sources tell me tonight that it's official: LSU and Alabama will meet again in New Orleans in the BCS title game.  It still remains to be seen whether or not TCU automatically qualifies for a BCS berth (I'm not optimistic).

That would put Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl, likely against Stanford (an automatic qualifier).

The Orange will have Clemson for sure, most likely facing West Virginia.

The Sugar figures to have Michigan against probably Kansas State.

Other bowl matchups are starting to leak out as well.  Keep checking our bowl page for the latest.

Oklahoma State's BCS shot done in by company it doesn't keep

Oklahoma State isn't playing LSU for the national championship because Oklahoma State isn't in the SEC. We can parse any number of lesser facts -- computer rankings and human polls, strength of schedules and margins of victory -- but the only fact you need is that one:

Oklahoma State isn't in the SEC.

And so Oklahoma State got screwed.

The Cowboys got screwed by a system that I'm not willing to call deceitful, because "deceitful" would imply intent -- and I don't think there was any conscious intent to screw Oklahoma State. No, Oklahoma State got screwed inadvertently by people and companies that don't have any idea how unfair they're being.

Oklahoma State got screwed by voters, who are influenced by the two biggest television networks in college football. I work for one of those networks, CBS, and I'm telling you, I don't believe for a second that my network intentionally, consciously conspired to keep Oklahoma State out of the national championship game, just as I don't believe ESPN consciously conspired to keep Oklahoma State out of the national championship game.

That's just the way it worked out.

2. Oklahoma State's loss, in overtime, came hours after a plane crash killed two OSU women's basketball coaches. I'm not trying to pull on anyone's heartstrings or confuse the issue, but that fact does seem relevant. The Cowboys have demolished almost everybody this season, and they've lost just once -- and that's the timing of it. It's not the end-all factor, no. But it has to be a factor, doesn't it?
So what team crisis caused OSU to give up 4 Tds and 2 Fgs to Louisiana Lafayette?  What were they teared up about in the TAMU game- other than it must have been embarrassing to have to fight for their lives to get out 30-29. Let's don't just glaze over that loss either---that was just GHEY.

Well, even though I'm an Alabama fan, to be fair I think Oklahoma State deserves a chance to show their talents against LSU.

This guy has an email box on his website ready to go for flaming--I sent him a Christmas wish:

Yep. Checking to make sure you were a Oklahoma homer before I called you an Oklahoma homer. I'm busy flaming you on another board so I can't stay long other than to say you must not follow football much. Big reader? I can imagine you curled up with something... but had not considered literature. So is that what you do on Saturday while your buddies are watching football? Shopping for OSU seatless cowboy chaps? Offense is fun to watch if you only have a few minutes to watch while exchanging gerbils. Real men love defense and use it to win championships. I hope this helps you.  BAMAWV

Breddy and I are sittin' on the sidelines watching you post. We considered helping you tag-team, but we decided we'd only be in the way. You've cage matched this bastid into oblivion and we couldn't be prouder.  :popcorn2:

I sent a new message to our buddy with CBS, just to make sure he had heard the good news.

Hey Gregg! You don't mind I call you Gregg? Just checking to be certain you heard the good news about the Crimson Tide. The football will be world class and both schools have excellent bands to entertain you, while your MIL grazes on your finger foods. Are you going to wear something special? Needless to say, all are excited here. What bowl will your team be in this year? I am sure you will still have oodles of fun.

Good work.

Writers like Gregg don't bother me anymore. Years ago, sure.

They are paid to keep it going. They value their own opinons too much!

If they could remove how they felt about what they are writing, it would be different, but they don't seem to be capable of that!

I don't mind them having a personal bias-- just be up front and disclose it-- instead of acting like your voice represents the collective.
