TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - Kirby Smart has interviewed for the head coaching vacancy at Texas A&M, according to a report on the Dallas Morning news website.

Smart is in his fifth season at Alabama, fourth as defensive coordinator, and has helped mold the Crimson Tide into the nation's best defense this season.

The paper reported interviews took place in New York City the past two days.

Aggiesports.com reported Tuesday that Smart was expected to interview.

Other candidates to replace Mike Sherman, who was fired, are Houston's Kevin Simlin, Southern Mississippi 's Larry Fedora and Air Force's Troy Calhoun.

I just don't see him at A&M. I would be looking at those other candidates real close, since they have a track record as a head coach. Fedora, coach at S. Miss., turned Ole Miss down.

 :dunno:

Sure hope all these assistants interviewing don't interfere with our focus on the Jan 9 task.

The list of canidates for the A&M job is not very impressive. However, Finebaum said last night that Boise Coach Chris Petersen name has come up and he is showing interest. Most coaches and AD's are at meetings this week in NY and a lot of coach interviews at all levels is taking place. I would be suprised if Petersen left Boise but A&M will be a good job for someone.

Chris Petersen has been on everyone's list for years, but has consistently denied any interest.  Maybe he just doesn't want to move.

They better watch those meetings in NY.  I believe that is where RichRod cornered Mal.

I could see Peterson going to either PSU or aTm.  Both places would have the small market feel he seems to value for his family. But any coach has to wonder what's coming down the road at PSU from NCAA.  Maybe nothing but you gotta wonder.
