Title: No. 16 Alabama faces Anthony Grant's alma mater tonight in Dayton
Post by: pmull on December 07, 2011, 08:25:05 AM
No. 16 Alabama visits Dayton, coach Anthony Grant's alma mater, at 6 p.m. CST today.

The Crimson Tide (7-1) is coming off its first loss of the season, a 57-55 loss to a Georgetown team that made its season debut in the AP poll this week at No. 18.

"We struggled vs. Georgetown's zone in terms of how we attacked it," Grant said. "We're just working on attacking zones better. ... I would anticipate we've got to be ready for teams to play a zone."

If we can just start knocking down a few 3's, we have a chance to make a decent run this year.

We need to do a better job of attacking the zone. You will not get good outside shots by simply passing the ball around the perimeter. We need dribble drive penetration and passes into the middle and then kick the ball out to get open looks. Our 3pt shooting pct is bad because we are throwing up contested shots late in the shot clock. As the season goes on our young guys will gain confidence in their 3PT shot.

I think we learned from the first half of the GT game. We played much better in the 2nd half. We should not have much trouble with Dayton tonight.

Hey Bamamojo, welcome to the forum.  True what you say.  Right now some of the freshmen are just throwing up 3s and not hitting them. They still have much to learn.

Great to see a new Tide BB fan. Were you around for the Gottfried disaster?

Agree with most of this, except the part about Dayton. They can be tough and have proved that in the past. This year I think they are 5-3 on the year. The have beaten Minnesota and Wake Forest, but lost their last 2 games.

Yes I was. I was a member of Tidesports forever. Have been frequenting another Bama forum recently but have grown tired of the foolishness.  Heard about this board and decided to give it a try.

It will be interesting to see how the young ones play on the road in front of a loud hostile crowd. I'm also very interested in seeing what improvements have been made in handling the zone. Roll Tide!!!  >:(

The RPI for all teams are still taking shape. The RPI will mean more after the holidays when all teams have 10 or more games played. for what it is worth Dayton has an RPI of 61 which is pretty good. Dayton is also expect a sell out of 13,000 or close to it. They are averaging about 12,500 per home game. This should be a good road test for us. I think we will play well tonight and win easily.

Bama 64-53

I think Dayton plays a better game with it being a home game. 71-66 Bama.

I like Bama's chances of winning but this is a road game, they're always a little tougher.
