Title: I have a few rants to discuss..
Post by: hscoach on December 11, 2011, 12:29:32 AM
I have a few things I want to complain about.
First, there needs to be some accountability on Heisman voting.    I am not saying RGIII, as he is known, is not a good football player.  What I am saying how about playing against the same type of competition that TR played against or at least take that into consideration.  Also, look at the position and what it entails.  TR, when in the game, is hit on practically every play.  He is either blocking or taking hits when he is running the ball.  How about the yards after contact?    I understand I am bias, but I look at the facts.  Some players play against tough defenses and others play in weak conferences.  Is there any type of formula that could be used, probably not?   Maybe some of the voting rights should be taken away.  I honestly don’t know the best system, but I do think TR should have at least come in second.
My second rant concerns Urban Meyer.  Why does OSU get a special waiver from the NCAA so they can have two coaching staffs?  This will allow UM going out and recruiting while the other coaches now on the staff get to prepare the team for the bowl game.  OSU chose to bring UM in, they had a choice and now the NCAA rewards the removal of a coach by allowing the new coach to come in early.  Other coaches who have teams that are playing in bowl games have to work around their practice schedules and meetings to work on recruiting, why the special treatment.
Finally, Urban was run out of the SEC because of health problems.   The health problems were caused mainly by his losing his favored status and replaced by Coach Nick Saban.  Back when I posted on Tidesports, I wrote there was a new sheriff in town and his name was Nick Saban.  Think about when UM came down with his health problems.  He wasn’t getting the attention because Bama was headed to the National Championship game, so what does he do he announced he had health problem.  Are you telling me this couldn’t wait until after his bowl game?  Urban should do well at OSU because there really aren’t any strong personalities that will take the attention away from him, plus he worked for ESPN.  But the biggest factor for his success is CNS is still in the SEC.

I agree with you coach. No guidlines to judge. ESPN decides who wins this award.

2 years ago Ndamukong Suh had 2-3  good ballgames and ESPN almost got him the trophy. I had not even heard of the guy until the Big 12 conference game.

MFBATR is finishing up his 3rd year of 5 star performances. I sure hope Alabama gets the last laugh in January. What I saw tonight was not very funny.

While I watched the Heisman trophy presentation tonight. Someone tweeted  "it is like giving Alabama and the SEC the finger."

Everyone knows Mark Ingram won the first Heisman trophy for Alabama. Other than a hand full of Alabama players even getting invited to NYC before, to be honest I never really paid much attention to the award before Ingram won it.

One other time I can remember watching Heisman show in 1997 thinking Payton Manning was going to win it. Archie said on the radio afterwards not to bring up the Heisman around him anymore.

Sportswriters have grown fatigued with the SEC and Alabama. People know who the beat players are in this country.Sportswriters are pushing their own agendas.

The Heisman is a beauty contest for the sportswriters. ESPN and CBS can chose the players, push them all year long and in affect get anyone the trophy they want.

The sportswriters are so disingenuous. That clown Bruce Feldman left MFBATR off his ballot completley. I will always remeber that when I see another article he has written.

I would to see all the ballots. Other than Luck and maybe even him, MFBATR will go higher in the draft than th eother three.

Matt Barkley may go ahead of Luck. Not sure he is going pro or not.

The other rant you had about tOSU being granted a wavier to allow them to have 2 coaching staffs during bowl season is just wrong. I didn't even know about the wavier.

Not surprised, if any program ever met the requirements for lack of institutional control it is that bunch in Columbus Ohio.

tOSU cheated last bowl season letting those 5 playersinto the Sugarbowl.

I well never forget 2 years ago on December 26th watching a game and the announcers breakin that Meyer arse quit. The are allot of Florida gator fans hating on him now. What they say the most about Meyer is,  how diaappointed they are about Urban.

I would be disappointed as well.

tOSU is going to try to compete with schools out of the SEC. Good luck!

I imagine we'll find that Southeastern voting was split between the two SEC candidates.

I would like to have an honest breakdown on how many PLAYS a voter watched of RGIII. Plays, not games. I don't imagine even the wives of the Baylor staff sat though an entire Baylor game. I'll also bet a large number of votes came from voters that never saw a RGIII down live.

I don't need 30 lines to explain this.

"The Heisman process has degenerated into crap."

I've had no confidence in the Heisman selection process since they selected Terry Baker over Lee Roy Jordan in 1962.

I agree, it has now become a "popularity" contest, basically who do we like the most this week. When Bama beat Auburn, all the news had TR winning the Heisman by the good game he had just played against Auburn, one week later and TR doesn't play and RGIII has a good game and all at once, TR is off the map for the Heisman.

The voting is not by season performance but by who had the best last game and it is sad that TR had to be an example of the bias of the media.

On one hand: "Looks like Ohio State is getting preferential treatment for its bowl game again this year."

On the other: "And this matters?"

Well, what I have been saying all along. ESPN does not like Alabama and will do anything to harm our recruiting and bring detriment to our team. RTR!

I think as punishment for their cheating the ncaa should make ohio state never
use "THE" at any time in describing / saying the name of the college , by any former
current or future student , employee or fan .

BAN the "THE"  >:(

Michigan AD has a problem with it as well.

Keep ranting, coach!  Nearly as good as your game notes!

I heard today that the OSU waiver "is not that unusual."  In fact, I understand that Michigan did the same thing when Lloyd Carr retired.

Having endured the constant adulation heaped on Urban Meyer by Gator fans, I chuckled to myself watching his implosion and "flop."  (ie, faking health problems to fashion an escapre from the mess he created at UF).  Any joy to be had at Gator expense when he was hired by Ohio State was small in comparison to my growing anger over the obvious:  The NCAA would let Ohio State off easy because they had "done the right thing" and hired a "class" coach to set the program right.  My suspicions were proved accurate when the NCAA allowed Meyer on staff to recruit...while other programs are having to game-plan for their bowls.  This move amply demonstrates that the NCAA is only interested in the $$$, and in their plan, a strong Ohio State free from cloud brings in too much $$$ to pass up.  Therefore, to the NCAA the solution is as simple as the stone from David's sling:  Resurrect Urban's legend and Ohio State football by giving Urban an unfair advantage recruiting.  This advantage has aalready paid off in a switch of a top lineman from Penn State to Ohio State.  Talk about killing two birds with one stone!  Until the NCAA organization is cleared of the corrupt men who run it for profit, this is what we get.

Well said, FT.  Ohio State should have been left to twist in the wind for several more years.

BTW, as our only "tarheel" rep, who should I pick in the bowl game, UNC or Missou (-4.5)?
