It’s been 23 days since Alabama last saw a football field.

That streak ends today when preparations for the Jan. 9 BCS title game with top-ranked LSU begin with the first practice of December for the second-ranked Crimson Tide.

A week of workouts is scheduled for Tuscaloosa this week before taking a few days to celebrate the holidays.

“Then (the team will) come back and practice another four or five practices after Christmas,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said. “And then get into our regular work week for the game itself even though we may not be able to travel to the game until Jan. 4th, which would be sort of in the work week. We’ll just go ahead and (practice) in Tuscaloosa and use our facilities.”

The No. 1 Tigers resumed practices last Thursday, less than two weeks after beating Georgia on Dec. 3 in the SEC Championship Game. Last week’s exercises were more about getting back up to speed. A few more this week will be more concentrated.

“Those practices will be more akin to the game plan,” LSU coach Les Miles told reporters last week in Baton Rouge.
