The NCAA wants us to believe that we like these bowl games instead of some sort of playoff system with say the top ranked 16 ranked teams.

Let the rest of the 20 schools or so that miss the playoff system play in the regular bowl games.

Yes, I do appreciate going to bowl games in years that are tough on the football field.

Here is the gist of my strategy, with maybe a few exceptions.  I spent maybe 10 or 15 minutes total making the picks.

1.  Is there an SEC team involved?  If yes, and the team is NOT Auburn, pick the SEC team.  If it is Auburn, pick the other team.
2.  Am I familiar with the teams?  If yes, then make an educated guess.
3.  Is one of the teams from the South?  If yes, pick the Southern team.
4.  Is the point spread close?  If yes, just go with the favorite.
5.  Is the point spread pretty big?  If yes, go with the underdog.
6.  If I make it to rule 6, just pick one of the teams at random.

I'd like to think that there is some defensive football going on here, but I fear that it's poor offenses. I am not impressed with Keenan Allen. Glad he didn't come here.

I am sure there is an art to picking ballgames but I just don't have it.

Seriously though, its really stomach-turning to hear all this emphasis on offense all the time now, with defense being treated as an after thought. As long as you can outscore the opposition, then you are fine. CPB and all of the old school coaches who have passed on are probably rolling in their graves over this crap. That's OK, though. The other schools can keep all their big scores; the SEC will continue to rack up the titles with smothering defenses. Maybe a light will click on in the heads of some of these coaches one day.

So I'm guessing that you picked Northern Illinois over Arkansas State based on #2 or #6?   :-\

One thing that has withstood the test of time is that "defense wins championships". Reference the SEC's BCS success domination if you need an example.

Haven't seen announcers get so excited since the Hindenberg,-- about the prospect of a Big 10 team beating an SEC team. "It was a great win" they just said on ESPN. Georgia was ranked #18 and in reality a middle of the road SEC team. MSU is what, maybe #2 in the Big 10-- well the SEC #2 team is a little busy this bowl season playing the SEC #1 for the national championship.

Somehow they have it in their thick skulls that by winning their first bowl in 10 years, MSU erases last years corn holing against the Tide and puts the Big 10 back to even. LOL

That was blatantly and shamelessly obvious. Of course ESPN has been on their anti-SEC agenda horse for most of the year, so that came as no surprise.

Jones PREVIOUSLY coached at Hawaii, which is what WV was saying.  Arizona State was rumored to offer him a job for next year, but they suddenly pulled the offer last month before the deal was finalized.

I heard he was at the airport about to get on the plane to come there for the presser when they called him and pulled the offer.  I don't know if they meant that literally or if they were exaggerating.  But I think he is going to be back at SMU next year unless something changes.

Nope, I was wrong.  The live shot only showed 3 men off the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped.  But when they showed a replay from a different camera angle you could see another wide out at the bottom of the screen who was off the line.

To show where these teams stand in the scheme of things, No. Ill lost to Wisconsin 49-7. But also, as a LOL, the lost to Kansas (Big 12) 45-42, and gave up 41 and 38 to Central Michigan and Ball State respectively. They have no business in a bowl except on Saturday mornings during cartoons. Arky St is getting bullied by them.

The biggest play of the bowl season may have been WVU. I took them because whatever I pick they do the opposite. So if I pick WVU, surely Clemson would win. Anyway, they lost a starter about every 5 days leading up to their bowl. I would've paid to change my pick before the game started.

Oh wait, it is coming back to me now.  Didn't Illinois start out 6-0 and then lose the last 6 in a row and fire Zook?  So I guess I had to pick an interim coach in that game.
