No team leadership, no desire.

Title: SIAP: McElroy speaks out on Jets slide

Normally it would be best to ignore the rantings of a rookie 7th round pick, but comments from Greg are not rants, and probably hold some truth:

I merged them.

They should listen to him.  They lost 8 games this year.  McElroy has only lost 3 as the starting QB since junior high if I am not mistaken.

Still wasn't his place to come out and PUBLICLY say these things as a rookie QB who hasn't seen the field, even if he was speaking the truth.  It would be different if he were a respected veteran, but he's not going to gain the respect of his teammates like this.  The response today from most players around the league has been negative, and the NY media is roasting him.

I fear he's damaged his career.

Players don't hire QBs. GMs and HCs do. And if I'm looking for a QB I want one with exactly that kind of bow-up in him. The reason it won't hurt him with other players is because no one in the league thinks that they are the kind of guy GMac is talking about.

Maybe, just maybe after all the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the players and media about Gmac's comments, they might take time for some introspection and ask themselves if they are part of the problem or the solution.

I know Gmac's getting fried over this but it is refreshing to have someone with the backbone to call it like he sees it.

If it hurts him, so what. He'll just run for President.

 ;)

LOL^^^Anyone gives GMAC too much mouth he'll simply take a player personnel position and then fire them.

Doesn't GMAC have an MBA? Or did he not complete it? ???

I think it's a shame that people don't want an honest opinion from someone who has first hand experience  of the situation regardless of his position on the team. Nothing should happen to him because he speaks the truth.

I hope you are wrong Hannibal about damaging his career because that would be a shame. He had a pretty good preseason and I think he's a winner if ever given a shot.

Sounds like GMAC is calling it the way he sees it and doesn't care what the consequences are.  He may get roasted by the NY press but I'll bet a lot of Jets fans are with him.

It sounds to me that McElroy doesn't way to stay with the Jets anyway, if given the choice.

^^This. The New York fans were ready for Ryan to make good on his guarantee that they would go to the Superbowl. They didn't even make the playoffs.

So someone spoke up and told the truth,so what. If they can't handle it,maybe it's time for them to move on. JMO,but there is too much talent there for them to finish like they did. When your use to playing with players who display a winning/positive attitude, why the heck wouldn't you want everyone to know whats going on,& maybe change a few attitudes in the process. Good for Greg.

I expected this to have some "aftershocks" from some of the players, I think the players are responding because of his short tenure in the NFL.

These players play for money, much different from the college level, where "most" players don't play for money just for the sport. This is a job and not necessarily a sport to them and that establishes a difeerent mentality about the locker room. Greg will have to fight his way through this and hopefully the saner minds will support what he was trying to say and do with his comments. The Jets definitly need some big changes and maybe it is the locker room that's the BIG problem.

I'm not denying that McElroy was telling the truth, guys.   I'm not denying it needed to be said.  I would argue that McElroy isn't in position to be the one to say it, and I will definitely stand firm that he said it in the wrong way (on a radio station in Birmingham rather than to his teammates).  McElroy was stuck with some lousy teammates this year...I get that...but what he did was being a lousy teammate too.  Two wrongs don't make a right, regardless of who was wrong first.

Bingo!! You nailed it perfectly. It's very simple, what happens in the lockerroom, stays in the lockerroom. The only reason so many fans are agreeing with him is because he played at Alabama. Imagine, if he had said something similar while at Alabama, how would Saban have reacted? It would not have been pretty. What if the 3rd sttring QB at Alabama had spoken out like this on a radio show, would he still have been on the team, I doubt it. Take those crimson-colored glasses off guys and be realistic.
