Title: Alabama vs. Georgia Basketball Info
Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 07, 2012, 02:24:10 PM
The game is on tonight (Sat.) at 6 pm. I have direct TV and it's on channel Fox Sports South HD (FSSOHD), channel 646. Georgia has been struggling and is rebuilding. I hope to see us hit some 3 pointers and rebound better. We will need to do both, soon, against other SEC teams. I wonder if Gueye, the 7 foot center will play tonight?

I expect UGA to give us a tough game tonight. SEC openers on the road are never easy. UGA ia 9-5 but have won their last 5. They are playing pretty good right now. They had a bad loss to GA Tech in Athens but they are playing better since that game. Their other losses were to respectable teams. We should win but it may not be easy.

L-o-n-g 3 pointer by Lacey. He's gone from coming off the bench, to starting, to getting more confidence with his shot. Plus, he can play point guard, if neeeded. Tide 18-13, 9 minutes left in first half.

21-15 Bama with 7:36 in the 1st half.

Hankerson hit a three, but then Ga. gets a layup. That big guy has 3 easy layups on us. Score 21-15. Now a three by Mitchell. 24-15. That's our 5th 3 pointer.

Bama looking good on both ends right now. 26-15 Bama.

Releford scores on a layup, 26-15 & Georgia calls timeout. Our guys are showing good energy on offense & defense with good rebounding. Timeot with 5 minutes left in half. This half has flown by, due to very few fouls or turnovers. Tide looks sharp.

Lacey is unbelievable. Bama up at the half 38-26.

Lacey hits a jumper, giving him 17 points in the half. Mitchell hits a 3 pointer, but Georgia stays in the zone despite the Tide's outside shooting being so good. Georgia hits a 3 at the end of the half. Tide leads 38-26. Great half for the Tide.

Georgia has no depth, in the last 5 minutes of the game, that will show. Mitchell has 3 personals. Eight different Tide players have scored. Tide 48-38.

Green is screwing up left and right with fouls and turnovers. UGA is playing better and showing life and energy. Grant calls timeout. Tide 50-43. Green has really play poorly this half and has helped UGA get back in the game. A couple of 3's by Lacey or someone else will change the momentum.

Tide defense and offense led by Steele stops UGA run. Lacey has taken only one shot in 2nd half. We need to maintain defensive intensity, but I think UGA may be getting tired.

Mitchell scores and fouled. Makes FT. 64-50 Bama.

We keep coming at them and UGA just can't handle our drives to the basket. Our passing into the paint is excellent. Steele fouled on drive to basket. He hits 2 FT's. Tide 66-52. Tide 12/12 on FT's.

Steele has played 2 games and looked excellent in both. This could be a big factor in our season if he can keep playing like that. He's the best defender, he can rebound, and score.

With Releford's 2 FT's, Bama is 14-14.

You just can't win playing with 6 guys. We had this same problem under Gottfried and Grant's first 2 years, no depth.

I missed the game, but I like what everyone had to say in this thread.  It sounds like our outside shooting was solid tonight.  That will be a tremendous boost if we can keep it up.

Two players who stepped it up for Bama last night:  Lacey and Steele.

Lacey has been steadily improving this year since his slow start due to a summer injury.  Last night, especially in the first half, he took over the game.  In the second half, Georgia kept him covered, even double teaming him, so he had less shots, but that opened things up for others.  In addition to accurate 3-point shooting and drives to the basket, Lacey played excellent defense had several assists.  The guy can do it all.

Steele came in off the bench and had a big impact, especially in the second half with Lacey tightly covered.  He not only gave Bama defensive steals, but was productive on offense as well.   Steele keeps this up, he may be starting before too long.

We attacked and beat a zone defense for the first time in several years. UGA did not have the athletes or the depth to play man-to-man. We had a good combination of outside shooting and dribble drive penetration to break the zone down with ease. Trevor Lacey is the real deal. He is starting to show why every major program in the country wanted him. Mitchell has improved his game. He is 1st team All-SEC at this point. releford is solid with no signs of a sophomore slump. Green came off the bench as the 6th man. He did not have a great game. It is good to get a road win without Green having to carry the load. Randolph only scored 4 points but he plays great "D". We have more scoring options than we have had in a long time.

This was a good road SEC win. We have a tough stretch coming up. We have LSU, @ Miss St, Vandy, @ Kentucky for our next 4 games. I like this team. The difficult non-conference schedule is paying off. Our young guys are playing better than early in the season. If we keep playing like we are we will not only make the NCAA Tournament but we will get a high seed.

Steele has added a spark to the team that we needed.

Before he was hurt last year, Steele was consideered our best defender, so this is a huge boost. Also, he can rebound, shoot FT's, and plays tough under the basket. Now, if he will start hitting some 15-17 foot jump shots, he will really be special. His defense and play under the basket really gives the Tide another dimension, since he's a guard. LSU is looking better, so I don't see any cakewalks coming up soon. These next 4 games will tell us a lot about this team. I think we can maybe go 3-1 (with some breaks), but at least   2-2.

CAG has so many players that are poised to have a big night at any time. Last year we had 2 or maybe 3 (JM,TM,TR) that had to have a big night in order for the Tide to break 50. This year include Lacey and Randolph, with Jacobs, Cooper, and Steele ready to compliment someone's big night. Someone should be able to pick up slack if leaders go cold. Or, instead of seeing who is cold, how about everyone shooting and let's see who is hot!

I am trying to figure out why Randolph goes back into "hiding" with Green on the floor?

I think Randolph is so busy playing defense he hasn't gooten involved in the offense. I think he took one shot last night. Every player has nights when they seem invisible, last night it was Randolph & Jacobs.
