LSU, which ran roughshod over every op­ponent except one and beat three top-five teams, deserves the acclaim. LSU was good, maybe one of the best teams in the BCS era.

But not the best on the field Monday eve­ning.

Given the chance for a rematch, Alabama dominated one of the best teams of the past

15 years, assuring its own place in history.

Purists will argue that the one loss, in overtime, denies Alabama the label of great.

But if LSU was the greatest BCS-era team going in, Alabama proved to be better.
