TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - Brian Schottenheimer is expected to visit Alabama today to talk with Nick Saban about the Crimson Tide's offensive coordinator vacancy, according to a source.

The source said Schottenheimer was in New Orleans on Monday for the BCS National Championship Game where Alabama won its 14th national title with a 21-0 victory over LSU.

The source said Saban has interest in hiring an experienced offensive coordinator.

Schottenheimer, 38, was essentially fired Tuesday by the New York Jets, and will be replaced by former Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano, according to the New York Daily News. According to the report, Schottenheimer was due to make $3.2 million across the final two years on his contract.

I am not too excited about this guy.  Aren't there better options?

Whoever CNS picks for the OC position will be fine with me. At this point in "the process" I am willing to give him a little rope. He has made us the top program in the country again. He has proven to me he is more than capable of making a good hire.

You guys are right.

CNS said in a recent press conference that he is not conservative on offense and he wants to throw the ball all over the field.  I would love to see us field the #1 offense AND the #1 defense.

I don't think Schottenheimer would be a bad hire. NFL experience and has some greatness in his veins (a.k.a. Marty). Plus, he has had to deal with a prima donna of a QB in Sanchez. I think he would be good for A.J. (Maybe McElroy can go on JOX and talk about what he thinks of BS.  )

I would love to know what GMac thinks about him.  I will be watching his twitter feed if BS is announced.  He will either say something nice, or he may just not say anything at all, which could be very telling.

My guess is GMAC has contacted already.

You could wiki him.  He played QB as a HS kid in Kansas (5A state champions) and as backup to Wuerffel at Florida in college.  He was QB coach in the NFL, then became the Jets OC from 2006-11.  The Jets made the AFC Conference Championship game in 2009 and 2010 (finished 8-8 this year).  He was fired and replaced by Tony Sparano, who was just fired as Miami Dolphins Head Coach and is known for brining the Wildcat into the NFL.

Anyway, not a bad resume, Shottenheimer was considered for two NFL head coaching positions, at Miami and Buffalo, during the past 5 years.

I wonder if CNS has a second choice in mind. I like the others trust CNS with all of my future footballs, but I seen the way the Jets players played this year and it makes a double take happen to you. RTR!

Word on the street is that Washington OC is in the mix....the one that worked with Jake Locker...he runs a balanced attack.
