I hope someone on here can keep us posted. I don't think we get the game on Directv unless you have ESPN Full Court.

Directv will do this from time to time and give you teasers so you'll subscribe to the package. You have to be very careful, though, if you buy a package, they will automatically renew it the next year.

It is horrible here too.  I don't remember standard definition looking this bad.  I just paid extra for the sports package to get the channel that has it in HD, but it is blacked out on that channel.  I don't understand why HD would be blacked out but SD is not.

I think it's the quality of the equipment (cameras) used in the game. The court itself is shown as yellow with a glare, the definition is poor, and the view looks like you're sitting up in the rafters. Very poor.

SC, I've been dealing with Directv for 8 years now. Call them and express your displeasure with your situation and they will compensate you with free stuff, such as a discount on your full court package or maybe 3 free months of a premium channel or 2.

There is so much energy on this team right now and it kind of reminds me of another team at the U of A that just won a National Championship. I'm not saying that Bama will win the NC this year but I am saying that these young men have bought into the CAG plan and are now becoming believers that it will work. There are some rewarding days ahead for this team as long as they stay focused mentally. Roll Tide!!!  #+

Wimp broadcasting our game...WOW!

Bama's first score was TR driving 3/4 court to score in traffic. Most of last year that would have ended up off his foot and OOB. He also had a strong drive with 2:00 left in 1st that was a +1.

"D" having to respect Randolph now. They have pulled out of loose man coverage to tight man coverage. BTW,- nice alley oop to Randolph at about 6 min. remaining in 1st half. This guy is special.

Bama boxed-- rebounded well-- 37-27 (I believe LSU avg 41) which was key to playing a team with a big front line. 3 shooting was back to normal but 50% from floor. RTR

RollTideRoll to the janitorial guys at Coleman. ESPN showed some different angles and everything looked shiny and spotless.

A win at #20 MSU would be huge.

Nice win last night. The attendance was listed at over 14,000 which is a decent crowd for a rainy Wednesday night.

This team is deep. I think we found the starting line up last night. Releford, Lacey, Randolph, Green and Mitchell. Steele and Jacobs first off off the bench. Eblin, Cooper and Hankerson (out with minor knee issue last night) avilable as needed. We are getting scoring from everywhere. Lacey looks comfortable now and Randolph has found his shot.

The team defense is great. LSU had trouble crossing the 50 yard line mid-court many times. The shot clock was at 20 sec before LSU could get into their offense. LSU did not get many good looks at the basket. We are a good rebounding team. I expected that out of Green and Mitchell but Lacey and Ranolph hit the boards hard too. Jacobs is a solid rebounder as well.

The schedule gets tougher. We will find out in the next three games if we are a 6-8 seed or a 3-5 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Miss State on the road Sat, Vandy at home and at Kentucky.

CAG has this team playing well. Basketball is fun again in Tuscaloosa. RTR

Yes to the rebounding.  LSU came into the game with good stats on offensive rebounding but didn't too many second chances against Bama.

The Tide showed great hustle and energy, which shows up in good rebounding. The game against Miss. State will be a real challenge. They are big and strong on the inside and reminds me some of Kansas State. We have to be able to shoot from the outside against MSU or they could pound us to death on the inside.

I enjoyed Wimp calling our game last night. I thought he did a good job. No doubt he knows basketball. My favorite comment was after the game was in hand and the other announcer said this is a big win but not as big as the win on Monday. Wimp said "It is if you are the basketball coach".

A win over MSU this weekend would be huge.

Congrats to the students at the game.  They gave a big cheer the first time LSU crossed mid court.  I thought that was .  Then when we got up by 21 they chanted "just like Monday!".
I liked how CAG put in all of our young guys at the end.  The game was basically settled, but it was close enough to give them some pressure.  I think we were only up 12 or so with 2 minutes left, and the young uns tood care of business.
At MSU will be tough for how young we are.  We need to win against VU at home because @UK is not going to happen.  We don't need another 3 game losing streak.

I would not completely rule out our chance of winning at UK. Sure they will be a heavy favorite but we beat them in Tuscaloosa last year and played them well in the SEC Tournament. We are much improved this year. Their team is talented but it is younger than ours. I say lets go in there expecting to win and see what happens.

^^^THIS^^^

Auburn gave them all they wanted for a while last night.

Same as football, depth kicks in during the 2nd half and there you go. Auburn played their little stupid hearts out and caught UK thinking about the after party or Angry Birds. At some point, UK got a "hey, we're losing" adrenaline rush and that was it. It will make UK a better (more mature) club and harder for us to sneak in a win.

I don't know, I look at it like this.  They coasted until somewhere along the way they did get that "hey we're losing" rush.  But then they flipped a switch and blew them out the rest of the way.  Now for a lot of young guys, that reinforces the notion that they are so good they can flip the switch any time they want.  A lot of guys won't listen to the coach until they lose a game or come close.  If they try that against a decent team they might not have time to pull it out.  We will see.

Mississippi State is leading UT 36-27 at the half. They don't look that impressive. UT matched them bucket for bucket until MSU's athleticism (or maybe UT's fatigue) took over the last 4 minutes of the half. I think Bama has a very good chance of beating them Saturday. MSU's ball handling is average at best and their shooting is not that great, except for the easy layups on their run. They are 13-25 from the floor and only 3-10 from beyond the arc.

Good point. Another thing about talented teams is they may keep waiting for someone else to start pounding 3s or slashing the lanes,-- making steals. You may have EVERYONE waiting for someone else to pull it out instead of taking the lead themselves.

If we can some how sneak out a win against them, that will be huge come tournament time, even if it is just a fluke.

MSU barely hangs on against UT 62-58. I'd love to see Bama have a hot shooting day, Saturday, and blow MSU out on their own court.

MSU will be a real test for the Tide and I can't wait to see how the team responds. The game is Satuday at 3:00 pm on channel 21 (WTTO) on Direct TV.

This game will be a very physical one, I just hope Bama is the team that has the saner mentality approach and not get caught up in the fouling contest. It will be very tough underneath the basket.

JG will need to be on his best behavior. The refs really let UT & MSU play last night and UT proved to be just as physical as MSU. Some of the MSU players got mugged and the refs let it go. If that happens Saturday, it will really be a wide open physical game. Gonna be fun to watch.

The more physical the better our D is.  The more the refs let us bump and push with our double teams, the more steals and more layups we get.  But we need a fast paced game to keep Sidney from being too much of a factor.

Sidney did not have that good of a game against UT, plus, he rolled his ankle. He came back into the game, but may be a little sore tomorrow.

I am worried the refs will let us MSU play physical and call touch fouls on us. We never get a fair shot at The Hump. We have taken some real good teams in there in the past and got screwed out of a win. I don't care how the ref's call it as long as they call it the same both ways.

Not asking for much, is it?  On JG watching his personals-- may as well give him 4-6 pts and a couple rebounds and call it a day. Seems there is no compromise with JG. Either he has 4 by halftime or 0 fouls and 2 pts. Or if they substitute for him with 3 PFs, and he sits until the 2nd half,  he "never" gets his offensive game back. Let him play full speed until he runs out of fouls. JMHO

Which JG will show up? He can be a dominate All-SEC big man good for a double-double or he can show up and get 3 quick fouls or get get mad because the offense does not flow though him and force a shot very time he touches the ball. The good thing is we can win without him now. We have good depth but we are a better team when he is on the floor with his head screwed on straight.

^^This. I hope the JG and TM show up that feed off of each other. When they get it going and the guards are hitting from outside, they are hard to beat.

Might be my imagination but I think he has poor Levi Randolph scared to shoot when he's in. This team gets exponentially better with 8 guys giving the "D" 8 different looks than the JG show. What an asset he can be, when and if he learns his game will be better with everyone contributing. No one is trying to take anything away from him.

I watched Levi Randolph play several times when he was in high school at Bob Jones. He has a nice shot. Once he gets comfortable he will become a guy that you can count on 10-12 points every night out, sometimes more. Lacey has gotten comfortable quicker than Randolph but both of these guys will be real good players for us.

^^^THIS^^^ Jacobs will probably get the chore of working Sidney and that is good because CAG needs to keep JG away from him on the defensive end if possible.

I want to pay closer attention to his shot mechanics Saturday. I noticed him shooting one in almost two hand set shot form rather than his shooting hand at eye level with a wrist follow through to the goal. It may have been the last shoot he took so I'll watch next time. It seems I've studied his play/shooting in other games and "silk" comes to mind.

I've noticed him a few times lean his body to the right when he jumps to shoot rather than squaring up and jumping straight up. Not everytime though, this young man is a diamond in the rough.

What I have noticed is he needs some room to put up his shot. He will not shoot with a hand in his face. I argee with Jamos that he is a diamond in the rough. He has the defensive skills already. He will be remembered as a pure shooter when he leaves Alabama.

I think the reason he is leaning is exactly what you said, he doesn't like the hand in his face and is trying to shoot around the defender rather than over him.

I'd have to go with you fellas, especially Jamos since he sees his nonverbal clues in person more often. But maybe the hand in his face isn't it as much as being a freshman and feeling out how much leeway he has to shoot. I think he may be hesitant to pull the trigger, and again, I say hesitant with JG in the game. Too big a deal?

Title: Re: ***Basketball In-game LSU vs Alabama***
Post by: pmull on January 14, 2012, 08:20:56 AM
All shooters are better when it is natural. A pure shooter catches the ball and immediately pulls the trigger. Randolph looks tentative. He looks to pass first. Once he looks around and then takes a shot he is out of rhythm. A good example of the catch and shoot was the 3 pointer Randolph made right at the half with time running out in the LSU game. In the Ga Tech game CAG knew JG would not play. I think he told the young guys we need your help scoring tonight with JG out of the game. Randolph and Lacey both came out shooting and had good nights. Lacey is comfortable with his shot now and not afraid to shoot. Randolph still has a little way to go but he will get there.
