I remember the days when nobody jumped ship early. They actually wanted to help Bama their last year and even graduated. It's just business. There is too much money out there now, and too big of a risk of injury to return to college. The University profits substantially from these kids playing, so they ARE helping Bama while they are playing. The return they receive from the university is not anywhere near the value they bring. Also, when these kids leave early for the NFL, it lights the eyes up of all those 5-star recruits out there hoping for the same opportunity. So it's not all bad. Title: Re: Crimson trio expected to turn pro Post by: pmull on January 12, 2012, 03:53:45 PM This always irritates me. I remember the days when nobody jumped ship early. They actually wanted to help Bama their last year and even graduated. Times have changed. In the days you are remembering freshmen did not play much if at all. Today's stud freshmen come in ready to play. In Trent Richardson's case if he played another year that would be four years of SEC defenses hitting him on every play. The shelf life in the NFL is short. If these guys are 1st round picks they would be crazy not to go. I don't know if these guys have graduated or not. However, most players are graduating in three years since they enroll early and stay on campus every summer. I hate to see them leave but I certainly understand why they do it. |
