Title: Jim McElwain left Alabama in style Post by: pmull on January 12, 2012, 12:52:10 PM Quote Before Alabama begins life with a new offensive coordinator, take a minute to appreciate Jim McElwain one last time. Remember what you thought when Alabama hired McElwain in 2008? Jim who? You weren't alone. Gus Malzahn drew the attention in this state, often for good reason. All McElwain did was win one more ring and become Alabama's best offensive coordinator in decades. Thank you Coach McElwain for the job you did as OC while at Alabama. Congrats on the head coaching job at Colorado State and we hope you have an outstanding career there. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/01/jim_mcelwain_left_alabama_in_s.html Title: Re: Jim McElwain left Alabama in style Post by: TheVarsity on January 12, 2012, 12:56:39 PM Quote from: pmull link=topic=7618.msg101546#msg101546 date=1326394330[quote Thank you Coach McElwain for the job you did as OC while at Alabama. Title: Re: Jim McElwain left Alabama in style Post by: 2Stater on January 12, 2012, 07:01:28 PM I know there were people, who at times, questioned some of the play calling over the past couple of years, but as CNS put it, if those plays were executed like they should have been, they all would have been good. Thanks for your hard work, CJM and the best of luck to you at Colorado State.

Did anyone else hear the comment the other night, I think it was KH. He said when he was watching practice Saban never took his eyes off the defense. This means CJM was in complete control of the O.

Yes, I did notice that too. I think that is how he likes it. Hire an OC that can get the job done on his own and just let him have at it. Of course all the coaches will chime in with some ideas during the meetings, but Saban wants to have somebody he can trust at OC so he can enjoy focusing on the D. I give McElwain a lot of credit for the game plan he put together for this game. I think CNS puts more effort into the defense even to the point of being a position coach. However, I don't think CNS gives the OC 100% control of the game plan. I think CNS spends a good bit of time reviewing and tweaking the game plan with the OC. I do believe once the plan is in place he gives the OC control to run the practice and call the game as long as things are going well. CNS is too much of a control freak to give 100% of the offense away.
