Title: No Alabama player has left a mark quite like Trent Richardson
Post by: pmull on January 13, 2012, 09:03:08 AM
The balance of power in college football changed on Signing Day 2009. Alabama became the team to beat and the program to chase that day.

He could've stayed in his home state and followed the same path as Emmitt Smith from Pensacola to Gainesville. Would Alabama have been able to overthrow Florida as SEC and BCS champion in 2009 if Richardson were standing in the backfield next to Tim Tebow? Short answer: No.

How many dominoes don't fall if Richardson becomes a Gator? Urban Meyer might still be the Florida head coach. Florida might have one or two more crystal footballs in its trophy case. Will Muschamp might still be waiting for Mack Brown to retire.

He was, simply, the best football player on the best football team in the country. On a team full of future first-round draft picks, he'll be drafted higher than any of them. In a program that's produced All-Americans, All-Pros and Hall of Famers, Richardson ranks as one of the best football players in Alabama history.

I, for one, will miss him greatly.  :(

Same here.  :(  I'll bet Gary Danielson will miss him, too. Now what is he going to talk about besides TR's wide running base?

I hope he talks about how Lacy is so good at busting through the gaping holes the 2012 OL opens up for him on a regular basis.  :D

Thanks Trent for everything! Not only for the way you performed on the field, but how you carried yourself off the field as well. For your work ethic, for the way you became a leader by hard work, and for being unselfish when it comes to the team. Good luck in the NFL, and Roll Tide!
