Yeah, CNN and ESPN are both reporting he's in serious condition.

Dan McGinn, the Paterno family spokesman, at 8:57 p.m. on reports about Joe Paterno's death: "Absolutely not true."

My apologies if not true. Came across in a text from a generally reliable source. What kind of sick b.... plays with something like that?

But NJ.com is reporting it.

Even if it's not true yet, the reports don't make it seem like he's going to pull through this.

This is all very unseemly. CBS, Huffington, People Mag, reporting his death. As of 4 minutes ago ESPN radio repotting that family is denying this. What is the rush to report a man's passing? It's not like breaking the watergate story.

Agreed.  I can't imagine being a family member reading reports about a loved one's passing while he is still in the hospital, apparently in serious condition.  It's hard enough having a seriously ill family member as it is.

Pitiful journalism. Huffington evidently reported what CBS said. CBS went by what the PSU student newspaper wrote. Hey guys, here's a novel idea: do your own reporting and know what's going on BEFORE you write. When I was in the newspaper biz, I would have been tossed out on the street for reporting something without getting all the facts first.

Many of his victories were won by cheating. Most by playing inferior competition. His legacy will be "the guy that harbored child rape".

God Bless the whole Paterno family. :(
This really breaks my heart. If not for the grace of God, my mom would've died from lung cancer. God lead my sister to find information on a great clinical trial which sent Mama to the correct doctor and gave her a second chance. (and 3rd she just last year beat another case of lung cancer)

I'm with you, Hank. Before November 2011, I couldn't name another coach other than CPB that I had more respect for. That took a huge hit Nov. 5. Unfortunately, there will always be that taint on his career, but I don't think I will completely forget what he accomplished prior to these disturbing events. God rest his soul, and prayers to his family in this time of difficulty.

One of my cousin in laws lives in Pearl, MS.  There was a soldier who died and was being honored w/ a parade.  Westboro was planning on a protest.   Well wouldn't you know it, a bunch of pickup trucks broke down in the parking lot of the hotel that had a bunch of kansas tags and they were miraculously fixed once the funeral procession was over.  Good ol boy network FTW.

Here's my take. Joe knew there was a problem and he told someone. When no one did anything about Sandusky Joe should've done more. He didn't and that's on him. But if any of a half dozen to a dozen officials, WHOSE JOB IT WAS TO DEAL WITH SUCH THINGS, had done their job, Joe would have not been in that position.

To Joe, I say RIP. To the police and psu suits that failed to protect those kids and contributed to the downfall of a great coach and a good man, they can rot in hell.

To all of those who are ripping on Paterno on the day of his death, I say respect the dead.

JP was from a different generation.  A generation that did not understand or discuss homosexual child rape.  This would be a completely foreign topic for him, something he would be as equipped to handle as an invasion from Mars.  Maybe an invasion from Mars would be easier for him to understand.  At least there were movies on it.  This other topic was so foreign, that his assistant coach did not give him particulars.  The topic was so foreign that, even after details were revealed, JP remained completely baffled.

So what did he do?  He talked to university administration and police and allowed them to handle it.

What would Bear do?  (WWBD)?  Well, Bear was one of a kind, and this kind of thing would completely baffle him too.  I'm guessing that he would have, at first, done the same thing that JP did, report to administration and police.

But being the Bear, yes, I believe that he would have done more.  If those first steps did not yield the desired result, Bear would have pushed further.  He would have seen to it that the party responsible from causing the problem would never see the inside of the football facilities again.

But the Bear was a visionary.  Only the Bear could have integrated the University of Alabama football team when many were clamoring for segregation.  JP, despite his wins, was not quite the same coach as Bear Bryant.  He did not have the same vision.

Or maybe he was just old.  At the age this happened under JP's watch, Bear was long dead.

All this is to say that, respect the dead.  Bear Bryant wouldn't have it any other way.
