Quote
Saban recently approached Samuels with the offer to join his staff, and Samuels jumped at the opportunity.

“They’ll pay for me to finish my degree, and I’ll be able to learn from some great coaches over there at Alabama. …It’s just been a blessing for me,” Samuels said.

Win-win situation.  #+

Samuals was a great college and pro player. I guessing he will be a very good grad assistant coach. It does not hurt to have some former Bama players with pro experience in the program to help mentor the young men. He has been to 6 pro bowls. I bet he has some good stories to tell about all the super stars he has played with and against.

Great job Chris. I tip my hat to CNS for giving a young man a chance at learning great skills for him for coaching. RTR!

Never hurts for recruiting to have a former NFL player on staff, especially one from Bama.  #+

Great news. That young man will be an asset to the program.

Great addition to the staff.  Someone who knows about Bama, knows about winning and knows about the pro game.   Good all the way around...

Funny thing though...in the article, there was this quote "they'll pay for me to finish my degree..."   So, is that his "pay", or does he get paid for coaching as well?  Article only mentions him as an assistant on the staff, doesn't specify grad asst, or regular coaching position.   Just seems like he probably made enough in the NFL to pay for finishing his degree...  but must be nice to work a deal like that if you can...   ;)

Likely he is a graduate assistant coach.  It is one way teams can get around the limits on coaching numbers, while training a new wave of coaches.  It is no different than any other area of academics -- graduate students generally have their tuition paid and get a salary for teaching.
