Title: "SEC coaches question fairness of league basketball schedule" Post by: Chechem on January 25, 2012, 05:12:51 AM Quote When the Southeastern Conference signed a 15-year contract with ESPN, basketball coaches applauded the deal because it provided more coverage, more exposure and more money. http://annistonstar.com/bookmark/17277359?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+AnnistonStar%2FTideSports+%28Anniston+Star+Tide+Sports%29Nearly four years later, several of the league's most tenured coaches have found a problem. Florida's Billy Donovan, Vanderbilt's Kevin Stallings and others are questioning the league's unbalanced schedule involving Thursday-Saturday games. The league added the short turnarounds under the new contract, giving it another night to showcase its teams. Coaches figured those games would be divided equally between everyone. Instead, it appears top-ranked Kentucky is getting a favorable draw. :tinfoil: :tinfoil: :tinfoil: :tinfoil: Title: Re: "SEC coaches question fairness of league basketball schedule" Post by: Jamos on January 25, 2012, 06:51:24 AM It's strange as to how unbalanced scheduling can get in the SEC whether it's basketball or football. In basketball you want to think that Kentucky is the premier school in the SEC and they are purposely doing this to make the SEC look better in the battle of the conferrences. On the other hand you would think that Alabama would be the one to get all the favors of the scheduling in football, due to their past history, such as Kentucky in basketball. This is not the case though, Bama has been fighting the SEC since CNS came to Bama about the off-week before the other teams are to play Bama.
Alabama has been a huge "cash cow" in football to the SEC since Bear Bryant came to the school and it just amazes me as to how the SEC seems to want to find so many wrongs with their program. This includes the many rules changes the conference has made to make the other teams as equal to the Bama program, but even with the somewhat bias of the conference heads, Bama has still been able to maintain their dominance of the conference as the premier football program. The SEC has improved over the past few years in basketball and has a chance now, due to the addition of some very good coaches, to step up their image nationally to become more recognized as a top basketball conference. If this is to happen though, they're going to have to share some of their love for the other schools to give them a chance to recruit and compete on that higher level, then they can compete with the Big east, ACC, Big Ten, etc. on a regular basis.
