Title: Tide Basketball After South Carolina Disaster
Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 26, 2012, 06:06:51 PM
The game against South Carolia will either be the downward spiral of the team this year or it will serve as a springboard to motivate the coaches and players to do better and make the NCAA Tourney. This makes the Arkansas game in out place gigantic. What do you think Grant will do? Does Mitchell and Greene start? Do we grind it out under the basket with drives and tough inside play (including rebounding)? Our RPI is 39, but dropping. Arkansas is 56. I really think Mitchell may be sitting.

I suggested in an earlier post that CAG bench TM & JG to at least get their attention. Put in Gueye and Jacobs, develop them, and live or die by them if Mitchell and Greene continue their selfish ways. I think we're all a little tired of "Hollywood" and "Little Bunny Foo Foo"

I think Jacobs has been very solid. I wouldn't mind seeing a lineup of:

Releford
Jacobs
Steele
Lacey
Randolph

Off the Bench:

Cooper
Hankerson
Gueye
Eblen

Doghouse:

Greene
Mitchell

I am sick of watching TM stand around the perimeter and not work for his shot. He's not rebounding either. Bad attitude. I hope he sits him down.

I feel different about MG. However, I want him to play up to his ability. He may be out with a ankle injury. He did not need to be on the court at the end of the USCe game. He could hardly walk.

CAG needs to do something to get this team playing hard. USCe had 19 off rebounds and put up 30 more shots than us. They played with more effort.

We can still turn this season around and make the NCAA Tournament but there is no more room for error.

I totally agree about Greene being on the court and he was limping badly. Plus, the last possession was a pass to him which was stolen. What on earth was Grant thinking having Geene in the game and probably taking the last shot? This is why Grant deserves his share of the blame for the teams play.

It's a shame to see this team the way it is now, they started out the season as an energetic and fun team to watch, but not anymore. The big question is how will CAG handle this.

I wonder what happened?  Is there some infighting?  Are the older guys jealous of the new guys?

It only takes one guy to poison a team. Has Mitchell become a prima dona who thinks he should be the star and main man? Saturday will be very interesting.

The only thing I know is you shouldn't be losing to SC... Just sayin.  We suck.

Say what you want about Jim Calhoun but when he sees someone doing what Mitchell does he yanks them. He doesn't care if its only 2 minutes into the game. When he puts them back out, if they do it again he yanks them again. They get the idea real quick and he rarely has a situation like this late in the season.

I really think we will see a major change come Saturday (I hope). Coach Grant knows there's a problem and he has to do something now to change the negative momentum.

JaMichal Green- Here is a young man who is a senior on this team who has just finished playing for the USA on the International team. He has been often mentioned at playing at the next level by many sports analysts and coming into his senior year it is important to lay the ground work for the next level. If Green has had a vice it has been his temperment, we don"t know if this is just something that comes out during a game against opposing players or if maybe it could be internal also with his teammates. He has always liked to be the guy that takes the shots rather than sharing the ball with the other players and I'm not so sure this isn't part of his anger ignition system, he wants to be the "go to" man regardless of the situation. His anger outbursts have cost this team in past games, not necessarily a win but it made some games that were a blow out ending up a very close win for them.

Tony Mitchell: This is a whole different scenario. Mitchell started this season doing the things that would make him a much sought after player by the NBA, he did so many good things that were in my opinion some very good team play. He had a good, not great, outside shot and was vicious on the boards rebounding, along with some good defense, but most of all he seemed to be the guy that the younger players respected and looked up to. Somewhere early in the season he made a few highlight clips with his circus like dunks and slowly he became a selfish, uncoachable player that I think scared some of the younger players and has affected them as well. Mitchell is no doubt the most athletically skilled player on the team but something mentally has clicked inside of him and has turned him into a player that really is destroying this team. His lack of hustle and pouting has affected the younger players and they have done a good job in disguising their frustrations but their playing abilities have suffered the most from all of this.

What does CAG do? I don't know but we will all learn from this as how good of a coach is he. Bama is a good team when they are all playing together as a team but how will CAG turn this mess around and get the team winning again, only time will tell. JMO  ;)

Basketball, especially Alabama basketball, means more to me than most people understand.  I'm one of those few around here that actually enjoys hoops more than football.  BUT...  I am so fricking sick of Alabama teams not being able to shoot.  I just do not understand it.  ALL it takes is a freakin basketball, a hoop and an hour a day to get better.  Quit practicing your Sports Center Top 10 dunk of the week and shoot some stinking Js!
Sorry....back to what you guys were talking about.

LOL! That's really the botton line. We looked awful against a bad team.
