Jeremy Shelley has walked in the same “kicking” shoes as those he worked with on Saturday during the Team Jackson Kicking Clinic at Houston Academy.

“We (college kickers) were all here at some point,” Shelley said, referring to his days as a prep athlete. “It’s a lot of fun to come out here and help.”

It’s been almost three weeks since Shelley kicked five field goals to help Alabama defeat LSU 21-0 in the BCS National Championship game in New Orleans.

The five made field goals against LSU was redemption from the Tide’s regular-season loss to the Bengal Tigers. In the 9-6 defeat on Nov. 5, Shelley had a field goal blocked and teammate Cade Foster missed three attempts.

“We were so fired up. We felt like we dominated them in the first game, and we wanted to show them what we could do.”

His five field goals set a BCS National Championship game record and tied a record for any bowl game, set two previous times –

Shelley, a junior from Raleigh, N.C., was joined by UAB’s Ty Long as another current college kicker at the camp, while Michael Taylor of Troy and Mickey Groody of FAU, both of whom completed their eligibility this past season, also took part as instructors.

They were in Dothan yesterday. My mother lives right across the street from the practice field at Houston Academy. I was dropping my son off at her house to go run my first 15 K race. I saw every on the field, and thought " Hmm a football camp." After I got home that night I saw J.S. was there. Then I thought "Son of a....!!!"
