Yesterday brought word that Oklahoma State is “not counting on” wide receiver Michael Harrison being available for the 2012 season.

Today brings word of a very good reason behind that sentiment.

Citing an unnamed source, Tulsa World is reporting that Harrison has been suspended for the entire 2012 season...

He was expected to be their go-to guy this fall.

BCS Acts Swiftly on Harrison Matter

February 15, 2012

Horace Scheitzen
Sporting News

Las Vegas, NV. Today, at an emergency meeting of the BCS executive committee, members met to discuss the far-reaching implications of the news out of Stillwater, OK, that Oklahoma State football stand out, Michael Harrison, has been suspended for the 2012 football season. The results of a brief but frenetic fact-finding mission have produced, in the words of committee spokesman, Barry D'Essecee, compelling suggestive evidence that adjustments to the 2012 BCS selection process are warranted. He announced that after the final week of play for 2012, the BCS polls and computer process would arrive at a number 1 and a number 2 team that will play in a BCS sub championship game. The winner will be guaranteed the number two spot in the final BCS poll. The loser would be ranked according to a final set of polls and computer ratings. The national championship would be awarded to Oklahoma State.

When questioned further about the reasoning behind this unusual decision, D'Essecee revealed that the unspecified transgressions that lead to Harrison's suspension could be linked to traumas suffered in the course of the 2011 season, and that correcting this unfairness would require that the BCS championship be awarded to the Cowboys prior to the beginning of the season. While several reporters questioned whether such a move would take some of the excitement out of the 2012 college football season, the spokesman stiffened, saying "It's not about exciting, it's about fairness". Reached at his home in suburban Crimea River, OkSU coach Mike Gundy expressed mixed feelings about the committees decision. "We would have liked to earn our spot in the championship game and earn the trophy on the field, but sometimes you have to choose justice over legitimacy".

The committee's full report will be released later this month.
