Title: Tide men's golf team roll to victory at Puerto Rico Classic
Post by: pmull on February 21, 2012, 01:22:24 PM
The Alabama men's golf team took home the individual and team titles Tuesday afternoon at the Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The Tide scored its three lowest rounds of the season while Tide freshman Justin Thomas secured his second individual win finishing 10-under-par.

"I am very proud how this team played," Alabama head coach Jay Seawell said in a press release. "We had all five guys finish in the top 20, four in the top 10 and Justin (Thomas) was the medalist - that is the formula for winning golf. When we get all five guys in the match we are as good as anyone in the country."

The Tide's 54-hole total of 834 was among the top five performances in school history and vaulted the Tide ahead of Clemson, Purdue, Georgia Tech and North Carolina State, among other schools competing at the tournament.

Great accomplishment. Congrats to the golf team.

Having had Cauley and Thompson as Bama golfers reaped benefits in recruiting, I'm sure. Justin Thomas will be one to watch this year.

Watched Justin Thomas at Jones Cup (which he won also).  Dude is a stud competitor. He won't back down and can handle pressure.
