Title: Bama lands 2013 commit tonight...
Post by: Toxik76 on February 21, 2012, 10:03:58 PM
Tyren Jones (the one I posted vid of earlier)

was BLOWN AWAY with Jr Day visit, here are a few quotes..

Quote
"I called Kirby Smart, my recruiting coach, and he was all excited, and then he put me on the phone with the running backs coach and Nick Saban," Jones said. "They all told me they think I made a great decision, and they asked me to give them a big Roll Tide.

"I already had a top five, but when I visited there, I just felt that vibe. I felt comfortable with everyone there, and I feel like they would help me grow as a man."

"I do not plan on taking any visits as of now, but I know I am 100 percent committed to Alabama,” Jones said. “I love how hard-nosed Nick Saban, Coach (Scott) Cochran and the entire staff are."

"I plan on recruiting Brandon Kublanow there as well,” Jones said. “I know if he would have visited he would have loved it there."

As I said a late bloomer, but best film I've seen of a RB in HS since Trent

The Alabama backfield now looks solidified in the years ahead. Dee Hart and T.J. Yeldon will be freshmen this fall and together this quartet (Hart, Yeldon, Jones, and Tenpenny) will form the basis of the 'Bama rushing attack in the years following the departure of Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy...

Obviously the staff did a great job recruiting this guy so kudos to them.  Still I wonder if there will be a positive flip side to the Philon/greyshirt stuff that motovates top notch guys to commit early in order to make sure they have a spot at Bama.  Perhaps not in this case.

Bama has become RBU.  This guy, Jones, has great vision and very quick, elusive feet.  Good hands, has the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.  Has the power to run between the tackles, although will need to add size.  Good patience in letting blocks develop.  Needs work on fundamental, carrying the football, or will fumble in the SEC.  Returned kicks and punts in HS, but top end speed is a question mark and probably won't play this role in college.  Runs mostly North South, doesn't dance around, makes his cut and makes tacklers miss.  With offers from Vandy and BC, academics likely won't be an issue.

Overall a great addition to the now-stacked Bama backfield.  Yeldon is bigger with more power and great hands, Hart has the speed to hit the edge.  Jones is a very elusive runner.  I'd project Jones to compete for the #2 RB spot behind Yeldon, as Saban likely will go with power for his starter.

He's got great speed runs track, could be a great sprinter, he's a more complete back than Yeldon, more like a Ingram clone, great vision and acceleration, takes 1 cut and explodes upfield more impressive than some playing in college now, VERY complete RB

Another commit is coming soon...

I like Jones, he has a huge upside.  And maybe he will be the next great RB at Bama.  But I don't think of him as an Ingram clone.  Although basically the same size in HS as Ingram, Jones runs more upright (as does Yeldon), and his north-south-cut-past-defenders style kinda reminds me of OJ Simpson.  You don't see too many RBs who can run like that, so I agree with you that he is a great HS RB.  On the other hand, Yeldon is more like Darren McFadden -- runs the Wildcat and can knock LBs backwards, but faster than his size would indicate.  Those two, with Hart, could give Bama a more potent rushing attack than even the Ingram/Richardson combo, but get them in the weight room first.
