Title: High school team has High Score but didn't win........ Post by: Yellow Pup on March 24, 2011, 11:06:51 AM They won the game. The scoreboard showed as much. What the Sunset (Ore.) High softball players really wanted to understand on Tuesday night was how they were handed a loss......

Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 24, 2011, 11:10:57 AM What a horrible rule. You can't unspill the milk. If you start the inning you have to finish it. If you don't have time to play the whole inning, then don't even bother to start it.

Title: Re: High school team has High Score but didn't win........ Post by: Terrie1959 on March 24, 2011, 03:55:58 PM That rule needs to be changed. I can't believe they didn't let them finish an inning! :(
Title: Re: High school team has High Score but didn't win........ Post by: XBAMA on March 24, 2011, 04:28:28 PM well .. from this 7th inning picture it wasn't a daylight issue ...
just a stupid rule , the team that is winning at the time the game is called I could understand Quote 03/21/2011 --Happy Valley, Ore. -- Katie Beasley of Sunset High School connects with the ball in the seventh inning during her team's game against Oregon City. Post by: m1q32 on March 24, 2011, 04:47:40 PM The rule about the score reverting to the end of the last completed inning if the inning can't be completed is pretty common. I've seen games around here where it started raining and lightning in the middle of an inning after the regulation point had been passed and the game was called with the score reverting to the previously completed inning. But things like that you can't control. I believe that if you start the inning, then it should be finished if the time limit/daylight ends during the inning as long as it is safe to do so.
Title: Re: High school team has High Score but didn't win........ Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 25, 2011, 12:56:38 AM Yes, I could understand for a storm. Those are unpredictable. But sunset? That is pretty predictable. And like you said, it is still safe to play after sunset for a little while.
Hopefully this event will cause them to review the rule. Title: Re: High school team has High Score but didn't win........ Post by: BillBrosky on March 25, 2011, 06:30:02 AM It sounded like a time limit thing, and not the sunset actually occurring. I'm thinking they had another game they had to squeeze in. Do they not have lights in Oregon? ???
