Title: "Expanding NCAA basketball tournament would make regular season irrelevant"

In the march toward a four-team playoff in college football, a common note of caution has been the desire to protect the importance of the regular season.

Apparently, North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham didn't get the memo.

While the powers-that-be in college football search for ways to keep the sport's 12-game regular season vibrant while devising a more legitimate postseason model, Cunningham this week essentially proposed that we chuck college basketball's regular season in the waste bin.

Cunningham told the Raleigh (N.C.) News & Observer recently that he favors an expansion of the NCAA tournament to a field of 128.

I listened to C M Newton on the Finebaum show yesterday as I was driving home and he has some big concerns about where college basketball is headed. He said that television has really damaged the fan support for so many teams because there are so many games on tv that fans just don't attend the games as they once did. He would also like to see college basketball start after the football season and end in April rather than March.
