Title: Official Auburn v. Alabama in the game thread
Post by: Catch Prothro on February 29, 2012, 07:55:43 PM
Wow, it is halftime and no thread already.  Bama up by 2 at half.

Best thing about the first half:  Nick Saban interview

Saban was asked about MO and TAM joining the SEC.  He said he spent the day studying MO offensive tape, and that they would be a challenge to defend next year.  Sounds like MO will be lucky to score next year, they are already in Saban's sights.   :D

Other interesting stat from the Saban interview:  Bama had a 9-0 run during the 4 minute interview.

Auburn's defense has come to play.  Halftime score is 23 to 21.

There you guys are.  I was entering comments on the other thread (but I was alone).

Not so good leading up to halftime, eh?

the Tide was rolling and looking good with the score at 23-14, but then they went to sleep and Aubarn went on a 7-0 run. Grant is outstanding at making halftime adjustments so I expect us to score more.

Where the heck is Engstrom or Gueye? If you want to stop Aubs from driving to the basket, their shot blocking is the answer.

 ???

Good call.  Maybe that's the last-5-minute shutdown.

We are getting killed on the boards, a 7 footer would sure come in handy right about now.

We won, but I really don't understand why one of our 7 footers were not used. Greene, Randolph, & Steele looked good. Releford was off, Hankerson was a non-factor along with Cooper. Eblen played some great defense against Auburn's best shooter. We have to play better than this against Ole Miss and going into the SEC Tourney.

I agree, but 'I'll take the win'.  We've won 3 of the final 4 we needed, and it looks like we're skating now, win at Ole Miss or not.  NICE.

Congrats to the barn and Barbee? Horse manure. Try Bama shooting 30% and of course less from 3 range. Horrible shooting night but put it in the BAMA bank. RTR!

Next up is Ole Miss and recent experience in that state leads me to believe they'll be too whacked out on reefer to take advantage of home court. Expect a couple of them to be splitting a big bag of skittles using a frisbee as a serving bowl. We'll be able to take advantage of turnovers because they'll be far too doped up to watch the shot clock, let alone correlating it with the game clock. RTR!

A win is a win is a win!! It wasn't pretty but it was good enough. It was a very physical game, pretty much like everybody figured it would be and just the type of game that Auburn wanted if they thought they had any chance of winning tonight.

The shots from the field just wouldn't fall, but the shots from the free throw line did. This team has really improved from the free throw line, something that they didn't have earlier in the season. There will be nights when the team will struggle in some areas but they have to make it up in another area as they did tonight. There's nothing wrong with winning ugly, it's a win and better than a well played loss.

Their goal right now is to get the first round bye in the SEC tournament, something that just might help this team in a couple of ways. In the post game interview with Green, he mentioned that this team needed some tough wins as they are preparing for their ultimate goal, the Big Dance, and I agree with that.

Ole Miss is Saturday and I wouldn't be surprised to see another rough and tough game there, just as tonight was. Roll Tide!!

Maybe CAG figured we had enough 1-6 guys in there as it was.

Cooper looked good in the early going (he started) and scored 7 points.  Lacey hit some long 3s and ended up with 10 points.  He wasn't driving to the basket, but did provide some offense.  Releford had an off night, and Eblen saw more playing time than usual -- he even made a FT.

In all fairness to Eblen, it's a given that he's not much of a shooter but he's as good of a defensive player as there is on the team as well as he makes some very good assists to the other players that are better shooters. You didn't see Lacey driving the lane last night because of his ankle injury, I'm glad he got through the game without reinjuring it again.
