Title: "SEC ADs meet, make no final decisions on future football schedules" Post by: Chechem on March 01, 2012, 04:47:34 AM http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/02/sec_ads_make_no_final_decision.html
Quote SEC athletics directors made no final decisions today on future scheduling for all sports and anticipate additional meetings during the coming months, league spokesman Charles Bloom said. The ADs met for seven hours in Nashville, not all related to scheduling. At the heart of the scheduling discussions is determining the best 14-team model in football for 2013 and beyond. Why be in a conference together if you rarely play each other? I know, it is all about money. Did anyone else hear CNS during the basketball game last night say if the SEC goes to 9 conference games he will no longer schedule a good non-conference game? Title: Re: "SEC ADs meet, make no final decisions on future football schedules" Post by: McBaman on March 01, 2012, 06:56:02 PM Well...IMHO... time passes & things change. We are now in an era of super sized conf's and the way scheduling was done in the past doesn't work well and needs to change. I think 9 conf games is too much; too limiting to scheduling meaningful non-conf games which is good for college FB, for example Ga- GaTech, or USCe-Clemson, or FL-FSU. It would also be brutal for SEC teams putting them at a disadvantage.
But... teams in a conf need to play each other reasonably often, and with so many menbers something's gotta give. Sadly I think some annual rivalries such at Bama-Tenn, Barn-Ga, etc. can't be kept as annual games. I don't like loosing the UT game but such are the consequences of expanding the conf. The times they are a changin'. |
