Title: Bama Softball beats UAB
Post by: Leewillie on March 04, 2012, 04:07:43 PM
and advances it season record to 17-0

After a slow start Bama wins 4-1.  Sewell started and gave up UAB's only run in the 1st inning.

Sewell later hit a homerun to tie the game.

Traina came in and finished the game.

Conley also has a 2 run homer.

Bama hitters struggled today.

I hope Jamos stayed warm.

I was warmer today, thanks Lee.  :D

If any of you haven't ever heard CPM have a "come to Jesus" meeting with his players, well you missed a good chance today. After Bama gave up a run in the first, the first six Bama batters strike out, and then a high routine infield popup falls between the 3rd baseman, 2nd baseman , and the shortstop, well I'll let you folks figure out what he might have said in the team huddle on the 3rd base line.

Anyway that was one of the highlights of the game and it was a classic. Bama sure came out flat and Sewell was struggling with her pitches the first two innings but I thought she reached back for a little extra and completed 4 innings without giving up anymore runs. Jackie Traina came on in relief and she didn't just shut the door on UAB, she slammed it. It was a very impressive outing for her and this is coming behind a very good performance in her last outing yesterday.

UAB's starting pitcher was very impressive the first 4 innings and Bama really struggled at the plate but Bama started taking better swings with the bat and got some better results. She is a lefty and had very good control of her pitches with some speed as well.

If I had to pick a player of the game it would be Ryan Iamurri, the little ladie came through with two timely hits that started bama's comeback and did a good job playing 2nd base today. She doesn't get to play that much and it was good to see her have a good outing. Roll Tide!!
