Title: Four SEC Invited, Nine Big East Teams get NCAA invite Post by: Catch Prothro on March 11, 2012, 10:21:39 PM I know the Big East plays some good basketball, but something doesn't seem right about the Big East getting so many invitations to the NCAA every year. Even thought the Big East has been getting numerous invites in the past few years, most teams don't go anywhere in the tournament. The ACC has had the most success recently, with the SEC not too far behind. 4 Teams for the SEC, 5 for the ACC this year. Whereas the Big East got 11 Invites last year, 9 this year. Might was well call it the Big East Invitational Tournament.

That could be changing some with the addition of Missouri, they seem to take their basketball pretty serious which will only strenghten the SEC which isn't just too shabby already.
I did wonder though why North Carolina got a number one seed and Missouri didn't. Maybe the past years got this one for North Carolina. :dunno: Title: Re: Four SEC Invited, Nine Big East Teams get NCAA invite Post by: ALTideUp on March 12, 2012, 08:25:55 AM The SEC likes football and the Big east likes basketball, we have our fun in the fall and they have theirs in the spring. Up there they whine about how their FB is not respected and that the media lovefest with SEC football is responsible for the SECs high rankings every year. But their basketball rankings are spot on and richly deserved. Lol Title: Re: Four SEC Invited, Nine Big East Teams get NCAA invite Post by: Catch Prothro on March 12, 2012, 10:05:47 AM My complaint is that we are still seeing an East Coast bias similar to what plagued football for years, until the SEC proved its domination. You cannot say that the Big East has proved domination -- in the past few years, the ACC (Duke championship and NC two championships), and even two championships by the SEC (Florida) should have dispelled any myth that the East Coast is that much better than everyone else. The Big East won it last year, with 11 teams in the bracket, but many of their teams were bounced early, and that was the only year since 2005 that the Big East even had a team make it to the championship game. Alabama was kept out last year because they did not play and beat (m)any East Coast schools. This year Washington was the PAC12 regular season champion but did not get invited -- they did not beat any East Coast schools. So I feel that the numbers are skewed.
